About this listen

From the best-selling author of Weightless, A Love Letter to Whiskey, and Revelry comes On the Way to You.

What makes you happy? That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn't give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga - but I just stared. And then, I got in his car.

It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn't going to miss it. We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room - and still, we were strangers. One day we'd be laughing, the next, we wouldn't speak.

Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in. Discovering his journal changed everything. I read his thoughts - words not meant for anyone's eyes - and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that. I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked. Until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.

Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn't know if I could.

Depression?

Depression.... has so many different meanings to different people. I Can’t claim to have understood how deep and dark it can be to some people. I’ve had different milder levels of depression but never understood the deeper debilitating levels, especially when everyone and everything surrounding the individual is great or at least normal. This story gave me a new understanding. Thank you! Loved this story!

Beautiful and Heartbreaking

This book is a beautiful and heartbreaking tale of two people driving across the US trying to find what makes them happy. I love the characters in this book. They were brave and weak at the same time and so well written that I wanted to put my arms around them and tell them everything would turn out fine. The narration on this book was even good. One of the best books I've ever listen to. I will be listening to it again. I wanted to start from the beginning and listen through it again after it finished. Great book.

So....moving!

Although I personally have never battled depression and/or anxiety, I know it is - they are - very real and tangible. This book made me see what someone's struggle could be like for them. I really loved this story with its pain and love and struggle and hope and vulnerability and strength. All beautiful! All necessary! And it's definitely worth a credit. or two! Enjoy!

Excellent Narration, touching story

This book is well worth a credit. This is the first book I listened to by Lacey Gilleron and she was amazing and believable, without having an abrasive voice. I also liked that story painted a realistic picture of how someone with depression may feel day to day, without the book being a downer. Kandi Steiner managed this while writing a heartfelt love story.

All the feels

On the Way to You touched me on so many levels, I think it was because Ms Steiner wasn’t afraid to talk about depression and it was written and narrated with compassion, as a person that has dealt with depression for many years I really related to this story and the characters. This is a beautifully written love story that I highly recommend to all romance lovers.
Emery and Cooper are two broken people dealing in their own way with demons and through this road trip we see them grow, emerge and fall in and out of love as they get to know each other. This trip also makes them realise that together they will be stronger, together they will be complete and together they can deal with the demons that haunt them.....
This audio book has all the feels and I went through every emotion as I listened to Lacey Gilleran bringing the characters and their journey to life. The journey wasn’t easy, there were plenty of bumps in the road for this couple but I was so glad I got the opportunity to join Emery and Cooper on the road to a HEA. This romance took my breath out away and to be honest I was blown away by the emotions I felt in this heartfelt wonderful romance. Great story, great characters and great narration.

hitting home

when this story first started I didn't think it was going to be any good but decided to give it a chance. I am really glad I did. I can relate to the characters in this story because I deal with depression, anxiety and panic attacks every day. I don't want to deal with people ever but that is what my audiobooks are for. when I go shopping, I put on a book and my headphones and listen to that instead of the people. it really works. back to the book. I really like it. it shows how one person supports the other without wanting anything back and she understands when he is having a bad day. cooper tries to give him the space he needs but it isn't easy for her. good job to the narrators and the author.

Kandi does it again

The emotions that these two go through are intense and so emotional.

I cried and laughed. I loved how Little Penny was finding herself and who she really was through the book. And I loved how Emery would give her bits and pieces of himself. Until he finally gave her his all.

Loved it. Another awesome read and listen by Kandi.

Emotional

I didn't expect this to evoke so many different emotions and to connect so much with both characters. Some things were really hard to read; and, at times, I was annoyed with both of them, but I also understood them, because I also did those same things.
I don't usually cry very much while reading, but here, near the end, I cried so hard, and even after finishing, I cried and cried.
It was definitely hard reading, but also worth it, and I'm so glad I picked this book up. Before you pick this up, you should know it deals with depression.
