From New York Times best-selling author Elizabeth Hoyt comes a delightful Maiden Lane novella that begins once upon a moonlit night - and ends wickedly, wonderfully ever after.
Hippolyta Royle is running for her life. Pursued by hounds on a cold, rainy night, the heiress flags down a passing carriage and throws herself at the mercy of the coach's occupant. Whoever this handsome traveler may be, he is her only hope to escape a terrible fate. But should he agree to escort her to safety, he's in for much more than he bargained for.
At first Matthew Mortimer doesn't believe Hippolyta's story that she's a fabulously wealthy heiress who's been kidnapped. He assumes she's a beggar, an actress, or worse. But once his new travel companion washes the mud from her surprisingly lovely face, and they share a breathtaking kiss, there is no turning back.

This is an enjoyable book, short and sweet with a surprise at the end. How fitting.Short, Sweet With A Surprise

The naughty bits were steamier than the other novella. All of which gave this a better balance of the regency romance I love with some modern pep.
Darling and exotic

The story line and plot started out good, then half way through fizzled out for me. I thought it was kind of dull to be honest. The whole indian thing, was just blah. There was lots of dialogue throughout the entire book that was great.
As for the narration, I thought it was great. I really like Ashford McNab's narrations. The men sound like men, she has a nice reading voice albeit a bit monotone but it seems to work for her quite well.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series. The Ghost of St. Giles will be back.
Okay story. Good narration.

I prefer Regency era, but this was very good and had only a few references that gave it evidence.
NARRATOR : Excellent, Ashford McNab is one of my favorites! Every character a distinct individual....
HEAT FACTOR : Ouch! That's hot stuff!
CREDITWORTHY? : Oh YES!
Excellent fun!

First, the story was classic "damsel in distress" and could have been cute but the author just had to wander into crude territory. The story is not enhanced by the occasional four letter word and in most instances it diminishes the story not the least of which it doesn't really belong in a Regency era story.
Second, the narrator does a good job of voicing the story and different part but she speaks so slowly that the story is much better told at 1.25X than the normal pace. There were times when the dragging on of the sentences was painful.
Otherwise, a cute story for quick read if you can ignore the crudeness.
Cute but crude
