About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Don't miss the brand-new Christmas book from Sunday Times best-selling author Trisha Ashley!
This Christmas will be the most special of them all....
Elderly widow Sabine knows this will be her last Christmas in her beloved home, Mitras Castle. Determined to make it just like the ones she remembers from her childhood, she employs Dido Jones of Heavenly Houseparties to help with the big day.
Dido is enchanted by the castle as soon as she steps through the imposing front door. And as Christmas day approaches, her feeling of connection to the old house runs deeper than she first thought. But when the snow begins to fall and Sabine's family arrive at the house - including Dido's teenage crush Xan - tensions rise around the castle's future and long-buried mysteries begin to unravel....
As past secrets come to light, can this still be a magical Christmas to remember?

Meg is definitely not in the Christmas mood. She’s never gone in for tinsel, baubles and mistletoe, and right now she’s still getting over an illness. Story
Alice Rose is a foundling, discovered on the Yorkshire moors above Haworth as a baby. Adopted but then later rejected again by a horrid stepmother, Alice struggles to find a place where she belongs. Only baking - the scent of cinnamon and citrus and the feel of butter and flour between her fingers - brings a comforting sense of home. So it seems natural that when she finally decides to return to Haworth, Alice turns to baking again, taking over a run-down little teashop and working to set up an afternoon tea emporium.

Story
Random House presents the audiobook edition of The House of Hope and Dreams by Trisha Ashley, read by Julia Franklin. When Carey Revell unexpectedly becomes the heir to Mossby, his family’s ancestral home, it’s rather a mixed blessing. The house is large but rundown and comes with a pair of resentful relatives who can’t be asked to leave. Still, newly dumped by his girlfriend and also from his job as a TV interior designer, Carey needs somewhere to lick his wounds. And Mossby would be perfect for a renovation show.

Story
Sappho Jones stopped counting birthdays when she reached 30, but even with her hazy grip on mathematics she realises that she's on the slippery slope to the big four-oh! With the thought suddenly lodged in her mind that she's a mere cat's whisker away from becoming a single eccentric female living in a country cottage in Wales, she has the urge to do something dramatic before it's too late. The trouble is, as an adventurous woman of a certain age, Sappho's pretty much been there, done that, got the T-shirt. In fact the only thing she hasn't tried is motherhood.

Story
All Marnie wants is somewhere to call home. Mourning lost years spent in a marriage that has finally come to an end, she needs a fresh start and time to heal. Things she hopes to find in the rural west Lancashire village her mother always told her about. With nothing but her two green thumbs, Marnie takes a job as a gardener, which comes with a little cottage to make her own. The garden is beautiful - filled with roses, lavender and honeysuckle - and only a little rough around the edges. Which is more than can be said for her next-door neighbour, Ned Mars.

Story
The villagers of Thrush Green celebrate Christmas traditionally, in a way that has hardly changed over the generations. Children eagerly hang up their stockings, families go to church together and everyone enjoys the treats of the festive season. And when it snows as the carol singers make their way round the cottages on the green, it looks as if Christmas will be perfect this year. But not everything is as peaceful as it seems.

World War II has just ended, and Britain has established the Control Commission for Germany, which oversees their zone of occupation. The Control Commission hires British civilians to work in Germany, rebuild the shattered nation, and prosecute war crimes. Lovely - great characters
This was a favorite listen this year. Cozy Christmas tale with great characters. Author doesn’t come right out and explain why the main character likes to cook for everyone, but if you pay attention to Dido’s family relationships you can guess why.

I would spend another Christmas at this castle
Trisha Ashley did not disappoint. From the quirky characters to the convoluted coincidences, it was true to the author’s form. All of the characters were well formed and added to the story. I will read this over and over (as I do every book by this author.)

Absolutely delicious!
I had read this book when it was first released and enjoyed it (it’s Trisha Ashley, so win, win). However, as I am not a Brit I wanted to listen to it this year, with the proper accents. Ever so glad I did, it’s a gorgeous listening experience!
Can’t recommend highly enough!

Absolutely Heart Warming!
I immediately fell in love with this book! As always, Trisha Ashley does the most beautiful job engulfing the reader into the actual story itself. Her attention to detail is part of the charm of her writing & her ability to draw the reader into the story more closely. Since she does this so well, I find her Christmas novels to be my favorites. I was in love with all the characters & as well as the ending. Furthermore, both narrators for this novel were exquisite. I look forward to listening to many more books performed by them for Audible. And i cannot, cannot wait for Ashley’s next novel release!!

Not a big fan of the narration
I like a light and easy storyline, but this story was really boring up until the last two hours or so, and the book was made worse by the stilted narration. The main narrrator has a nice voice but she made the people sound stiff, unnatural and not all that likeable. Even the nice characters sounded a bit snobbish. I managed to finish the book, but I was glad when it ended.
