About this listen
A New York Times best-selling novel
Can a woman with a past and a man with no future find lasting love?
Stephen Kenyon, Duke of Ashburton, has always taken the duties of his rank seriously - until a doctor's grim diagnosis sends him running from his world of privilege. Traveling incognito, he yearns to experience life to the fullest in what time he has left.
When Stephen rescues a drowning child, he is drawn into the warm embrace of the Fitzgeralds, a family theatrical troupe brimming with laughter and affection. And their enchanting, compassionate daughter, Rosalind Jordan, stirs emotions he's never known before.
Widowed young, Rosalind is happy organizing her exuberant, close-knit family. She doesn't expect to fall in love with a quiet stranger, whose wit and kindness speak to her heart. When Stephen tells Rosalind the truth of his condition and proposes marriage, she accepts despite the shadow of inevitable loss.
Together, they find profound passion and companionship. Yet neither dares speak of love, for only a miracle will give them the future they desperately desire....

Timeless
I read this book when first published and have reread many times. I was delighted to find it on audible. The story rings true because of the deep feelings covered, doubted and finally accepted as faith in man and God becomes tangible. It will remain my go to book in times of challenges.

I Had Forgotten About This One
When I reviewed MJPs best books I had forgotten about this great story. My favorite story of hers is Shattered Rainbows but this follow- on story of the hero’s of that wonderful book, Michael Kenyons, older brother is almost as good. I also like the fact that both the hero and the heroine have “been around the block”. They aren’t kids and they have lived through sad marriages.
If you want a period romance about two adults, read on.

Easy listening
Although long the pace moved steadily from conflict to resolution throughout the book. Action, descriptive individual histories, narrative exchanges, and behaviors provided platforms for character development. I enjoy listening to a story that is not held together by series of contrivances and instead provides time for challenges to be worked through allowing tension to build naturally as was the case in “One Perfect Rose.” The final twist was enough of a surprise to off set the predictable romance resolution. I recommend this book to individuals looking for a summer read with entertaining characters, storylines, and great narration.

Another wonderful Fallen Angels novel!
Sadly, this is the last in the series, but it’s a spectacular conclusion. Steven is one of my favorite heroes, and I love all the details of life in a traveling theater group during the Regency period.

Too Sweet Maybe?
Mary Jo Pitney is an engaging writer and I have enjoyed many of her books. I felt the same for much of this book, until there were a few too many instances of melodrama, happenstance...Even more than the usual number of romantic tropes. And the book seemed to move unexpectedly from a warm novel to an inspirational one. I might have read it when it first came out in the late 1990s, for it seemed pleasantly familiar when I began listening, but maybe I skipped/skimmed over passages then or the audio gives a different sense of the work now. EVERYONE, as well as EVERYTHING, seems too neatly tied up in a “sweet” bow.
The reader/performer was excellent and kept me going.
