About this listen

The handsome and charismatic earl of Stratton, Caleb Ware, has been exposed to the ton for his clandestine affairs—by his own son.

As a child, Devlin Ware thought his family stood for all that was right and good in the world. They were kind, gracious, and shared the beauty of Ravenwood, their grand country estate, by hosting lavish parties for the entire countryside. But at 22, he discovered his whole world was an elaborate illusion, and when Devlin publicly called his family to account for it, he was exiled as a traitor.

So be it. He enlisted in the fight against Napoleon and didn't look back for six years. But now his father is dead, the Ware family is broken, and as the heir he is being called home. It's only when Gwyneth Rhys—the woman he loved and then lost after his family banished him—holds out her hand to help him that he is able make the difficult journey and try to piece together his fractured family.

It is Gwyneth's loyalty, patience, and love that he needs. But is Devlin's war-hardened heart even capable of offering her love in return?

As always a joy

I do love to get back to Mary Balogh's books every time. They are warm and comforting and envelopes you like a cozy blanket in front of a fire. I prefer to listen to them, because as always Rosalyn Landor enhances the experience of the book tenfold.

As opposed to some reviewers I enjoy the somewhat lengthy presentations of the characters and surroundings, the slow pace is a balm to my soul.

As almost always in Ms Balogh's books there is a moral or ethical dilemma and discussion that is taking up rather many pages of the book. I appreciate that and like it, it gives more depth to my reading experience.

Enjoyed!

Enchanting

Love it and the narration was great, as usual. Looking forward to the next one.

Very slow starter

I have listened to most of Mary Balogh’s books and usually enjoy them very much. Ms Landor is one of my favorite narrators.
I thought this book would never push past trying to ensure we all understood they were a happy family. I almost gave up. The last half was better but I wouldn’t buy again.

Disappointed

Story was a little farfetched. No steam. The ending was horrible because it just ended abruptly.

Lovely. Big Sigh.

Whenever I want to read something far away from now with a few challenges for the characters, wisdom from experience gained, and love of family and friends, I usually choose Mary Balogh's gentle prose and listening to Rosalyn Landor narrating. Ms. Balogh leaves me feeling quietly serene and thinking, "Okay, I can continue with my life challenges now." Thanks, Ms. Balogh, once again. Smile.

A Serious Romance

Well, as my first Mary Balogh book, I did very much enjoy the narration and the characters. I felt immersed in the time period more than most Austen-style books.

This has heavy adult discussions on romance, adultery, etc. But I was glad the author did not shy away from discussing this topic, as historically, it was likely frequent for men to have lovers. It affected the characters in their decisions and actions, trying to make better choices. Our two main characters were quite affected. I don't normally enjoy this style of romance, but I DID enjoy it and have another Mary Balogh book on my to read list. I will probably still try. 😊

Spice level is hard to pinpoint - I'd average it at 4/5, but only 1 scene. The remainder ranged from 2 or 3 at most. (In comparison to say, the Julia Quinn books, it's about the same amount.)

Loved this story

“Remember Love” Ravenswood, book 1 by Mary Balogh
Yes I loved my time within this Regency romance; although, my heart broke many times and the tears just rolled down my cheeks. And then there were the smiles and happy times, too. I have had this book in my audio library and on my TBR list for a while. Now it is on my read again list. Happy Reading ! !
Note: This review expresses my honest opinion.

Reminder of love

Yet another lovely book by Mary Balogh with perfectly matched narration by Ms Landor. Can’t imagine one without the other. I am hooked. Her stories take me away to different times, simpler, most polite by the times standards, a momentary escape to a sweeter era in many ways. The characters are brilliantly described making this reader feel a part of the times in which these stories are told. Looking forward to another.

I love a good romance!

Mary Balogh does historical romance with angst and social drama once again. It’s always a great listen to soothe my heart. I appreciate the tug of war that the man and woman must navigate before coming to an understanding. I’m just a softy I guess.

Beginning a new series and laying groundwoek

I'm a fan of Mary Balough. This is a promising beginning for a new series. As this is the launch book, each of the characters who will tell their own stories in upcoming books must be introduced enough for readers to see the shape of their upcoming stories
The hero starts out as a relatively naive young man with an attractive innocence, dedication to duty and love of family that is sincere and enviable. Confronted with the truth of the essential hypocrisy of his father and the facade of perfect family he responds with dramatic and public outrage. He is exiled from his home by his mother. he responds to what he believes to be an unjust punishment by completely severing his ties with all members of his family except for his natural brother who joins him in exile. He morphs into much more complex man after his exile. The heroine is an enthusiastic slightly unconventional young woman.

Returning home after the death of his father he must decide how to relate to his mother and other family members who all have suffered as a result of his actions.
