About this listen

Widespread poverty and malnutrition, an alarming refugee crisis, social unrest, and economic polarization have become our lived reality as the top one percent of the world’s seven-billion-plus population pushes the planet - and all its people - to the social and ecological brink.

In Oneness vs. the 1%, Vandana Shiva takes on the billionaires club of Gates, Buffet, and Zuckerberg, as well as other modern empires whose blindness to the rights of people and to the destructive impact of their construct of linear progress have wrought havoc across the world. Their single-minded pursuit of profit has undemocratically enforced uniformity and monocultures, division and separation, monopolies and external control - over finance, food, energy, information, health care, and even relationships.

Basing her analysis on explosive, little-known facts, Shiva exposes the one percent’s model of philanthrocapitalism, which is about deploying unaccountable money to bypass democratic structures, derail diversity, and impose totalitarian ideas based on one science, one agriculture, and one history. She calls for the “resurgence of real knowledge, real intelligence, real wealth, real work, real well-being”, so that people can reclaim their right to: live free. Think free. Breathe free. Eat free.

This should be required reading for everyone, especially those that will be our future. It is now a food and agricultural system to benefit the few, and it will destroy us if we do not stand up to those in power that can stop it. Thank you Vandana Shiva!

This is the best book I’ve read in years. Vanda Shiva makes such a compelling evidence-based case for how the technological and reductionist model of science is really just a tool of colonization and the elite to further erase indigenous communities and indigenous wisdom while growing the wealth of the top 1% and creating the biggest inequality gap we have ever seen.

To say I admire Vandana Shiva is an understatement. This book is a wakeup call and she is standing up to large forces. This is a powerful read, yet at times it was difficult for me for the following reason. If you notice this too and it bothers you, press on. It's beyond worth it.

There are a lot of conclusions stated, especially in Chatper 1. The conclusions almost come across, to me, the way politicians call each other names in the media. Having said that, the book presents data and facts too. I wish the conclusion/statement part of the writing could be scaled back or removed because it's not needed to make the impact. I believe the book would be stronger without it and potentially be accessible to a wider audience.

I hung in there because I've heard Vandana speak in documentaries and online and she is an amazing speaker. She is also a true servant leader. I am grateful to her and her work. Strongly recommend.

Enlightening with one caveat/suggestion

This is a deeply distressing narrative that needs to be told. Loaded with facts and true history that has not yet been erased. If we go out with a whisper it is because we refused to see....

Loved it. It's beautifully written. If you have any concern for the environment, read this book. Her intelligence exceeds many and this book offers more than just the problems, it offeres the solutions. Her voice needs to be louder. Highly recommended.

Bill Gates is an evil man.
