Publisher's summary

To Senior Medical Examiner Dr. Beckett Campbell, the Hippocratic Oath has always been more of a suggestion than a guiding principle....

Beckett is no ordinary forensic pathologist, which is why he's not surprised when a container with expertly removed organs arrives on his desk. What is alarming, however, is the note that accompanies it...the note that suggests this is only the beginning, that more are on their way.

And then there's the hidden message. The one that reveals Beckett's darkest secret, the thing that sets him apart from all others.

He can't go to the police, his colleagues, or even his closest friends for help.

It's up to Beckett alone to figure out where the organs came from before more people die. In the process, he finds himself locked in a sadistic cat-and-mouse game with a brutal killer that has him reevaluating his own unique moral code. And when Beckett finally discovers the shocking truth about the organs' origins, he finds himself asking this question: With more than 100,000 people waiting for organs in the US and less than 15,000 donors, who deserves to live and who deserves to die?

And does Beckett have the right to choose?

Great story line!

Can't wait to read more about Beckett's brand of justice and find out how many more self-applied tattoos he's going to create

Please get a different narrator!

If you like Patrick Logan books then you'll love this one as well...at least, you'll love the story he's written... but the narration is really awful. Especially after listening to the entire Drake series which was narrated beautifully. This series' narrator though...I am going to buy the paperback versions of the rest of the Beckett series because, unfortunately, they use this same narrator for the whole audible one and I just can't take a full other book of his terrible cadence and even worse attempt at doing a New York accent. I really believe they should re-record this series being read by the same guy who did the Drake series... yes, it's that bad. At least, too me it is. I'm interested to know if any other Patrick Logan fans feel the way I do.
But, if you can manage to get past the terrible narration... the story is awesome :)

Enjoyed. Will read other Beckett books. Will also try Drake series. Reminds me of Dexter.

A comedic rip-off of Dexter?

I wanted to love this novel. And I did like it. At some point in the story, I became invested in it. The characters were pretty one-note. Beckett is a jerk. Susan is a shrew. It was saved by the great writing ability of Patrick Logan. It's a fun and light-hearted (but predictable) medical thriller and I will be reading the next one in the series. If you're looking for something to occupy your mind for a few hours that's not heavy and smartly written, this is a great book for you.

Disturbing and unique!

I missed the interaction between Drake and Beckett. But I do love Beckett’s quirky sense of humor and disdain for academic BS. I would like to see him take teaching a bit more seriously. I think Grant will make an interesting side kick for Beckett exploring book knowledge vs hands on learning. I hope you keep Susan and Beckett together she balances him out and I think eventually she could handle knowing his secret and be able to pull him back from the edge so he doesn’t self destruct. Keep Beckett fit and healthy. Ease back on the benders and keep him razor sharp and focused with his brand of justice. It’s quite intriguing to have an ME utilizing his knowledge to kill the bad guy.

Dexter Redone (And not well)

Very disappointed in this book. If I wanted to listen a book like the Dexter novels, I would listen to Dester, which was well done. I enjoined the doctor and what he added to other books but when the author spun he off on his own, it just didn't work for me.

Cringe-Hard to get through.

I felt as thought I was listening to a story written by a highschool student for a project. Not sure if it was the narration, but some phrases were repeated which I’m assuming for emphasis but just felt like it was just filling space. Will not be continuing the series.
