About this listen

Dr. Mallory Hayes, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) medical investigator, is a committed physician and researcher quietly battling height and air-flight anxiety. When a tsunami devastates the coast of Southern California, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) establishes a camp to house the tens of thousands of people displaced by the disaster, and the Army is brought in to provide medical services.

Mallory is dispatched to the camp by the CDC to prevent the potential spread of disease from contaminated water. What she discovers is far worse than anything she could have imagined—an accelerated HIV-like virus, and a common, everyday microbe, which are proving to be unfailingly deadly.

Soon, Mallory is called upon to determine the virus' origins. But it turns out to be a complicated story involving a scientist with psychopathic tendencies, a devout Islamic extremist, and a misguided adolescent. Will the virus itself continue to spread throughout the country, without either a cure or a treatment?

Particles in the Air is a shockingly realistic tale only an immunologist could write—a tense, high-concept thriller meant to appeal to fans of A.G Riddle, Michael Crichton, Terry Hayes, Richard Preston, and others.

Engaging and Thrilling!

This book is so engaging and thrilling. I listened to it while I was working and found myself very involved in the book. I almost wish I had an upcoming road trip that I could have listened to this on to pass the time. So engaging and the storyline is not far fetched so if you are in the medical field, this is an amazing book to get lost in. The details are brilliant and made you feel that you were so involved. Highly recommend for anyone sho loves thrillers, especially ones that are more targeted at the real world.

The storyline is solid, the characters well-developed, and I enjoyed the deep voice of the narrator, perfect to create ambiance and lead us through the suspenseful plot of 'Particles in the Air'.

Thrills in the Face of Disaster

This audiobook, "Particles in the Air," deliveres a one-two punch of excitement and expertise that had me hooked from the start. Dr. Jenna Podjasek's background as an immunologist lent an edge of reality to this medical thriller that unfolds with Dr. Mallory Hayes as the lead. The balance between Mallory's personal battles with anxiety and her professional commitment to facing a devastating health crisis was nothing short of compelling.

Richard Salem's narration brought the high stakes and tension of the story to life, making the characters feel real and the danger palpable. The breakneck pace of the plot made this a thrilling ride, with each chapter pulling me further into the story's depths.

It's not every day that you find a book capable of not just telling a good story but also enlightening you with detailed, authoritative medical insights. As Mallory dove into the mystery of the virus, I was right there with her, piecing together the clues and facing the human element that adds so much depth to this tale.

"Particles in the Air" is a testament to the power of well-researched fiction that entertains as much as it informs, and it's a novel that stands out in the crowded field of thrillers.

What a Thrill Ride!

Dr Podjasek does a phenomenal job with story development in her latest thriller, diving right into the topics of natural disasters & viruses. Insight only a immunologist could have, she has constructed a main character in Dr. Mallory Hayes that is thrust into a global catastrophe. This is a tense thrill ride, & quite a “page turner” (whatever the audiobook equivalent is called?) Nice job with the narration as well, it was easy on the ears. I would recommend picking this audiobook up for not only a solid story, but also to learn how to be better prepared in an emergency situation.
