About this listen

Perhaps best known as the snarky narrator and cofounder of the viral YouTube channel CinemaSins, Jeremy Scott cracked the code of turning a passion for film and sarcasm into a full-time job. Original Sin is Jeremy's compelling story of family, career, and deep love for movies that launched him into internet stardom. In his trademark, unapologetic voice, he gives an irreverent and honest take on the wild ride to creating a YouTube sensation. This memoir-with-a-twist sprinkles listeners with his personal advice on the combination of dumb luck, know-how, and je nais se quois it takes to be successful on YouTube while hilariously relaying how two friends stumbled into fame. With anecdotes of laugh-out-loud misadventures and insightful, actionable advice for aspiring YouTubers, Original Sin is the ultimate behind-the-scenes look into the inception of an internet sensation. But more than that, it's one man's love letter to humankind's greatest escape, a pastime that allows us to dream and dwell on beauty, art, and truth.

Fantastic.

This book is great. that's all no extra qualifiers needed. Jeremy Scott tells his life story (so far) splendidly, succinctly and superbly.
I too spent a part of my life in the movie theater business, and everything reflects accurately the trials and tribulations of such a life. Well done.

Love me some Jeremy Scott

Thank you for narrating. I know it’s not your favorite to record audiobooks. As a disabled person who HAS to listen to books, I always love it when the author narrates as well. And thanks for letting us have a view into your life. As a podcast listener, I think I’d already heard the stories. Lol
I miss the podcast with you, Chris, and Barrett. Keep on being awesome and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

No book is without sin...

I've been someone that's loved the channel for years. I actually have listened to the ables which I find is great books. I also listen to when the corn is high. Jeremy stories are always a great thing to listen to and a great thing to find. This audiobook was one of the best things I've listened to in the fact that it wasn't a true breakdown biography, but instead would tell you what you needed to know and you could feel Jeremy's passion for movies come out of it. I didn't get into trying to learn more about YouTube, as Jeremy has pointed out and said it's mainly luck. if you want a good listen/read and want to learn more about someone that truly cares about movies and their passion, I would highly suggest listening to this. as well as if you're a fan of Jeremy like myself. it's always fun just to hear more things that they talk about.

F***ing WOW

As a somewhat longtime fan of CinemaSins, this book really spoke to me. 1) of course Jeremy was a PK - he has "the voice" as I call it, and that's probably partially why he's been successful. 2) as a non-PK who was so indoctrinated in church culture that I was literally there EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK - yep! All those jokes land for me. 3) All that being said... I was still allowed many secular experiences like music and movies. The best parts were hearing him wax poetic about how much he loved every part of the movie experience. That's that sh*t I love about anyone who is passionate about anything; in this audio book I could hear when his eyes lit up. I know that doesn't make sense but trust me. I could tell.

Said all that to say... I loved it, obvi. That's it. That's the sin. *DING*

Good memoirs. Good, not great.

Bought this because I'm a big fan of CinemaSins. It was really interesting to hear about the genesis of the channel, and the stories that shaped Jeremy's relationship with movies. There was a good amount of chuckle-worthy humor throughout, with a few genuine laugh-out-loud moments (the money-clip story got me good).

My biggest issue is with the lack of editing in the actual recording. There was a lot of audible breathing and mouth sounds that made listening very unpleasant. I wish an editor had gone through and removed all of that.
