Publisher's summary

The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend.

After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life. Along the way, they tell a remarkable story of boundless energy, determination, and laughter that could only keep the demons at bay for so long.

Critic reviews

“the newly released audiobook edition of The Chris Farley Show, an oral biography co-edited by Farley’s brother Tom and journalist Tanner Colby, is full of reminders of how close he had already come to a mid-career breakthrough. ( Salon)

Incredibly sad....

This book, while being a very insight and beautiful look into the life of Chris Farley, is more of a three-part eulogy. It will make you laugh but sits under a cloud of despair while it does it. Finished it in three days because even in death and through others' stories, Chris Farley is still someone that can grab and hold your attention.

Awesome book about a wonderful man

I always loved Chris Farley’s comedy, now I love the man. This book had me laughing out loud and sad to tears. He loved people, loved to make them laugh, loved to do things for others and couldn’t overcome his addictive demons. He died way too young but can live on as an example for others to get sober and live a full life. One of my all time favorite books.

Great book

I wish Chris was still with us. He truly was and still is extremely funny. I love watching his old skits and seeing him. I started to watch his movies again after listening to this book.
We all wish he was still here to make us laugh till we cried!!

Sad story...

The book was well written. It is hard to listen to as a Chris Farley fan. He was such a sweet yet troubled soul. All he wanted to do was make others laugh..

fascinating perspectives on a unique individual

I loved how the connecting and overlapping stories from different perspectives was shared.

After their first intro though they'd just repeat the name and not the connection to Chris so I'd have to wonder was he the fellow cast member or the childhood friend?

Really interesting information about his addictions and religious beliefs.

A Real Tearjerker

What an amazing and beautiful honor to be able to read of Chris Farley's journey and impact he had on the comedy community. I found myself crying, missing old friends, and feeling deep for this man throughout the entire read through. You really get attached to a book like this as you read it. The characters are so well placed it's as if your in a novel hoping the ending is different from the beginning.

Horrendous narration

I wanted to hear these genuinely interesting stories about Chris Farley and really had to force myself to block out the overblown “acting” of the narrators. JUST READ THE TEXT—don’t tart it up.
