About this listen

Leigh Alexander has lived every day of her life feeling like an outcast amongst her family and the small-minded people of Pine Hollow, a secretive community to which her parents belong. When Danielle, Leigh's younger sister, asks Leigh to come home for her wedding, Leigh's torn between wanting to be there for her sister and saving herself from people who've despised her all of her life. Knowing she'll regret her decision, Leigh gives into her sister and goes home for what she hopes is the last time. Leigh was prepared for people to ignore her, for them to shun her, for them to point out all the ways she didn't belong all because she wasn't a size perfect, but what she hadn't been prepared for was falling for Ryan Hart, a man who she will soon learn knows all of the secrets her family and the town of Pine Hollow refuse to tell her. Revealing the truth about Pine Hollow and the rest of the supernatural world might be forbidden, but to save Leigh's life, Ryan will tell her everything about who she is, or more importantly who she isn't, even if it will forever change her life and the lives of every person in Pine Hollow.

Laughs and twists

supernatural, urban-fantasy, shifters, romance, family-dynamics, angst

I dunno, it's been a couple of years sin I read the first one but that certainly didn't diminish my enjoyment of this one. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers, but that can't begin to prepare you for all the laughs, suspense, plot twists, and other surprises contained in this story.
Margi Stephens is very good at character differentiation and emotions.

Great story!

Ryan and Lee are the main characters and the story switches back and forth between them. Lee is the outcast, adopted by a shiftier family. She's the oldest child and her family leaves the pack town moving outside it. The pack are elitists who believe shiftier can only be with shifters. They don't accept others into their pack. Lee doesn't know what her family is and equates being an outcast to her full figure.Ryan is a shiftier in the same pack as Lee's family. When he meets Lee he feels an instant connection with her and he's not afraid to drop the pack and follow her.

The character development is strong as the reader gets into both Ryan and Lee's minds. Lee even though insecure has backbone and wits. Ryan is kind of an alpha type but he's also gentle and caring. They meet when Lee's sister marries Ryan's best friend and neither can deny the connection they feel towards each other. After the wedding Lee goes back home to Washington. Upon her arrival strange events start happening to her. When Ryan follows and they pick up where they left off the events become threats and they are forced to seek pack protection but not the pack they're associated with.

There is plenty of suspense woven into the story that builds for an exciting climax. There's also a couple messages in the story. I'm not sure if the author meant for them but they're there. Acceptance of those different than us and a full figure can be sexy. I loved that and found myself rooting for their love throughout the story.

This isn't the first book I've listened to by Jennifer Reynolds or Margie Stephens. They make a good combination and compliment each other.

Human mate

Leigh is different from everyone in her town, she is ostracized about her plus size figure and her parents send her away. She plans on never coming back. When her sister, Danielle, the only one who cares for her asks her to come to her wedding Leigh relents and puts on her big girl panties to deal with the looks and comments from the town people. There she meets Ryan who show her nothing but kindness and they spend a passionate night together. She leaves the next day never intending to come back. Except she doesn't know she is Ryan's mate and when he finds her a crazy ride ensues. Finding out who are enemies and who will help because a war is coming and Ryan will protect her anyway he can. I received a complimentary audio and I am voluntarily reviewing.

If you are an adult who enjoys paranormal romance and strong storytelling, this book is for you! Also highly recommended for anyone who likes paranormal suspense. This will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will need a glass of something cold to cool off with as this book is spicy!
