About this listen

When her twin sister goes missing, Tala hires the Shadow Zone’s most notorious dark hunter—a fiery hot werewolf with secrets that rival her own.

Practically Perfect. That’s the name of the magic shop my witch twin and I own in Chicago’s supernatural marketplace. In reality, things are not so perfect.

Tessa's the face of our shop. She draws in the customers to buy our potions, brews, spells, and enchantments. I’m the sensible sister moving boxes in the back. It works, sort of, and we have a pretty good life...until Tessa disappears.

My instincts tell me my sister didn’t leave by choice. But here’s the problem—this isn’t the first time she’s flitted off, forcing me to bail her out of trouble. So the authorities think I’m crying wolf. Again.

I have no choice but to venture to the Black Underbelly—part bar, part brothel, entirely dangerous—to hire the most notorious dark hunter in the Shadow Zone.

The Fire Wolf has flames in his eyes and a body that makes my mind go places it shouldn’t. I shouldn’t want him. I shouldn’t crave him.

Although none of that matters when we discover the reason behind Tessa’s abduction. Overnight I become a pawn in a much larger game that I never wanted to play.

Best cliffhanger ever!

The last scene made me laugh in shared irony with the FMC. Schrödinger would be so proud of this cliffhanger!

My house has never been cleaner!

I really enjoy listening to this narrator. I’m able to get my work and chores done!

This story was nothing like I expected, especially after reading Krista’s previous series, and I was living for it! It was interesting, fast paced, and hot and heavy. I love how it didn’t end on a massive cliffhanger (don’t get me wrong, it still does, but not too big, in my opinion) but still left me craving for the next one!

great book, AWESOME performance

I really like Wold of Fire, and Rene Kim took it to a whole new lever with her performance.
The story is exciting and keeps you on your toes. Love Tala, she is so fierce and doesn't back down from a challenge. The Fire Wolf is sexy as all get out. I would totally set up my sister's abduction so I could hire him!
Rene does a fantastic job with the different inflections of Tala and Tessa's voices, along with Fire Wolf. I can't wait for Krista's next book, Bound of Blood!

FL Super Frustrating

Can she please just be smarter and stop having herself “jolt” to awareness every two mins? Everything she thinks and does would have been awesome if she didn’t keep undermining herself with her stupidity and selfishness.

Read it because Fire Wolf was a crossover character.

Tala is a brat. It was exhausting with her constant attitude. She could have been 50% less annoying.

Her Forbidden Power......

I have had the oddest experience this week. I was in the mood for a shifter story - don't ask me why, it was just one of those things. Anyway, I went through my TBR library and picked out a couple of different series to start with and I'm not sure what the heck was going on, but I must have had the worst luck choosing because I could not find one series that I could stand. Granted, it has been a while since I've read a shifter series, at least I think it has. Anyway, after DNF'ing two different authors, I did NOT want to do that again. I really dislike DNF'ing and try not to do that unless it is something I REALLY can not finish. Actually, I used to NEVER DNF anything no matter how awful, but a few years ago I realized that there were WAY too many good books to waste time on a bad one. I also think that shifter stories tend to be more in the YA category - or heck, maybe the ones that I choose were in that category - and sometimes I have a harder time in the YA genre (even though I have found some AMAZING series in this genre) Okay...I'm rambling....

Why am I giving out all of this information? Well, because when I started this series I thought to myself, "oh no...not again" and wanted to bang my head against a wall. I felt like this series had potential, but the beginning was taking a REALLY hard time to settle in and the writing seemed extremely immature to me. But...I decided to give it a go and to keep moving forward.

I honestly am glad I did.

The premise of this story is that there are two witches who are twins. they co-own a magic store in Chicago. One of the twins gets kidnapped.

Where I began to have issues was that the sister (the one trying to find her) her behavior was not really consistent with the information given out. There is some world building that started but it was developing at a fairly slow pace so the beginning had times where I was thinking, "What?" because things weren't making sense. Apparently, she (Tessa) is an attention seeker and the SF (Supernatural Force - or something like that) who are the policeman for the Supes basically said, she's probably doing another one of her drama/attention seeking things and refused to help.

Tessa seems like a very self involved and absorbed sister who is extremely flighty while Tala (the other sister) does things on impulse and ends up shooting herself in the foot (not literally but figuratively) quite often. It does become a bit frustrating. But okay, we are moving forward with the story. The beginning of the story eventually does settle in and things begin to get interesting, but the pacing, the character development and the actions of some of the characters seemed very OTT at the beginning.

The good twin goes looking for the "Fire Wolf" because someone else tells her that he is a hunter and can look for her sister and Tala and her best friend head off to the Shadow Under Belly to find him - of course, they know nothing about it and are totally unprepared, but at this point I'm thinking, "What's new?"

After that, things do get interesting. Without going into spoilers, there are things that Tala does not want the world to know about her powers and there are other reasons that the Fire Wolf decides to help her. I ended up becoming invested in the story but I did have one HUGE pet peeve. If I heard her call it her "forbidden power" one more time.....UGH. Seriously? Every single time it came up .....

I alternated listening to this on audio and reading. The narrator was okay. This was one of those stories that seemed to get better as time went on. I'm not sure if it was because you just decided to go with it and not let the little things bother you, or if it really did get better.

Anyway, I'm willing to keep going, so let's see how book 2 ends up :)
