About this listen

The complete series!

Ten full-length paranormal cozy mystery novels.

One delightfully witchy series you'll never want to end.

Twenty-nine-year-old Imogen Banks is hashtag struggling.

After a disaster ends her career, destroys her home, and burns up all the money she’s saved to open her own bakery, she enters a baking contest for an all-or-nothing last-ditch chance at getting her life together.

But when she arrives at the mysterious island off the coast of France, she discovers all the inhabitants of the quaint town are magical, and if she wins the contest, she’ll become the next royal baker at the castle on top of the hill. No worries that the last royal baker appears to have been murdered.

And one more small thing—Imogen herself is apparently a witch!

As Imogen struggles to learn new spells, wrangle a snarky magical flame into baking her desserts, and try and not burn the whole white tent down in the process, a fellow contestant drops dead with all evidence making Imogen the top suspect.

But she hasn’t only caught the eye of the bumbling and pompous police inspector, who’s doing his best to pin the crime on her. With a hunky medic and a broodingly handsome baker vying for her attention, Imogen’s whipped a little romance into the mix.

But when she discovers ties between the recent murder and the previous royal baker’s death, Imogen’s out to not only clear her name, but figure out which of the cooks has a taste for killing.

Will Imogen tap into her fledgling powers in time to save herself, or will it all prove a recipe for death and disaster?

This boxset contains the complete 10-book Spells & Caramels series. These books are fun, clean, imaginative mysteries you’ll stay up all night binging.

Delightful & Magical

This was my first experience with Erin Johnson's work, and it was charming and enjoyable. Each of the ten stories have an entertaining mystery that was clever and fun to try and solve, as the amateur sleuth Imogen worked through the clues. I liked Imogen and all her friends. I appreciated that each story was completed within the book, but there was a unifying theme of love tying all the stories together. The characters were enchanting, and I liked all the magical creatures that appeared in the series. The flashes of humor were like icing on a cake and added to the pleasing aspect of the tales. I enjoyed all the stories, and I recommend this omnibus to anyone who enjoys this genre. Hannah Somerville's narration was awesome, and her performance enhanced the entertainment to be found in this series. I will look for more audiobooks with Hannah Somerville as the narrator as she was a true joy to experience. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Overall worth it!

If you are a prolific listener of cozy magical mysteries, the Spells and Caramels series is well worth a credit.

The writing takes a little getting used to (as another reviewer said, there is ENTIRELY too much whimpering) and the narrator is not in my top 5. She did grow on me though, especially once I got a few books in.

However, once I got over these small issues, I found a sweet, funny, well-developed world that I was happy to spend 64 hours in.

I will look out for more by Erin Johnson. Thanks for a fun fantasy romp!

One more warning! These books will make you hungry! The descriptions are that delicious.

Cute series

Easy listen - narrator was crazy good! Very light - nothing too heavy! Well worth the ONE credit it cost (10 books in the series)!

Great Series!

I really enjoyed this audible set. The characters were engaging and well developed including most of the supporting cast. I was drawn into the authors descriptions of the different kingdoms. I would love to see more books with these characters or maybe the next generation (hint, hint).

I had problems with a couple of small things. The author does overuse some words/phrases like booted foot and whimpered. Also, the jersey shore mermaids were really obnoxious. I know that was the point, but it seemed out of place in the books.

The narration skips around and repeats passages in the second and third books. But that is not really the authors fault.

These were minor issues though, and it was a fabulous series and I would love more.

Easy & Fun

It was fun and easy to listen as I worked. It kept my attention, but wasn't so deep I needed to give it all my attention.

love the books

I loved the books, but the voice could of changed some. when they are actually reading from the book it's very boring. when they are speaking it would of been nice if there was a little more change.

Fun and Creative

These stories are fun and creative. Great for all ages the Spells and Caramels series would make a great read. The narration was not something I would listen through again voluntarily. Narration vs. radio show with unnecessary foley, mispronounced words and a challenging lack of effective inflection. Though I will say that the narrator sounds like she would make a lovely friend to your 15 year old daughter. All in all well with the 1 credit for 10 cute books.
