Publisher's summary

Marty Hogan was a good cop, until a shocking case sent her to the razor's edge....

A sadistic killer pushed Chicago cop Marty Hogan past her limits - and it was all caught on video. She lost her job, her sense of self, her entire world...until an open detective position in small-town Texas gave her a chance at redemption.

But she's about to learn that the past always catches up....

Police Chief Clay Settlemeyer knows all about mistakes and second chances - he's still earning his own, so he's willing to give Marty the opportunity to prove herself. But when her ex-partner is murdered, it looks like Chicago is coming to small-town Texas with a vengeance.

Not as good as her others

Story line was very good. Narrator was NOT good. Got on my nerves at times. I almost stopped & returned. Also over the top sexual descriptions. Obsessed with her Amish series which had just enough sex.

Gripping and Personal

I was cheering for Marty from page one. And, hoping Clay was "the real thing." Enjoyed the look at law enforcement from the inside and the human side of the profession. Castillo hit a home run.

Narrator was horrible!!

If the book didn’t have some merit, I would have dumped it after 20 minutes. The narrator was that bad!

Whiny narrator

Overall it had a great story, but the narrator had the whiny voice that was hard to take, it sounded like she was on the verge of crying through out the entire story.

Review of Overkill:

This was a good story. I did not like the sexual discriptions for a mystery book, it was too discriptive and was an unnecessary tangent.
It took the characters way too long to come to the conclusions they did. Marty should have immediately been looking for relatives of the Russian she beat up. These are professional
policeman, one they are always aware of their
surroundings it is impossible to follow them, unless you have at least 4 people. Lastly it took
way too long for Clay to get down the canal to
save Marty. He was a mile out, after 6 or 7 minutes of running he was more than a half mile out. This is ridiculous. Why did he not have a gun accurate to 2000 yards an M40 or something similar. If you are going to write mysteries be accurate in the timing and how a real person would handle a similar situation.

Suspenseful enough to keep me reading

Sometimes there was repetition in a chapter from a previous chapter. But, the story was suspenseful enough to get me to finish the book and see how it ended.

conflicted

Decent narrator. Okay plot. Annoying main character. She's just a terrible cop, a hot head and she should have been fired.

Annoying "breathy" reader

The story was predictable & the "dramatic" reading made it difficult for me to listen.

Not a favorite

I loved the Amish series by Linda Castillo. This was too " Harlequin" for me.
