About this listen

There is a dark side to every passion....

Cases of random violence have erupted across the country - murderous acts committed by previously non-violent people. Detective Adam Boedecker, grieving brother to one of the suicide-murderers, has discovered that all the suspects had taken a new breakthrough anti-depressant, Valazine.

Elizabeth Barnes has devoted her heart and soul to pharmaceutical research. She's at the top of her game and slated to be awarded top honors for her latest breakthrough drug. Until a detective contacts her about a recent wave of homicides.

At first, Eli dismisses it as the wild accusations of a grieving, burnt-out cop. But after another mysterious death, and some investigating of her own, Eli realizes that this intense, driven man may be the only one who can stop the killings...and save her from the dark side of her work.

Held my interest and very well told. Loved listening on Audible. Great details and narrated very well.

Great story

Personal, I prefer the Kate Burkholder series, however, this time out trying something new by a well like author, didn’t hit the mark. Admittedly, the sex scenes were done very well (!!) but the character’s dialogue through most of the book sounded like it belonged in a fraught romance novel. Just wasn’t working for me here…
Also, I wasn’t in love with the narration- I felt that her intention was good— but it all sounded a bit hokey. I’m not saying I would t try another stand alone novel by this author, but I am still waiting for the next in the Amish series .

Not horrible…

Narrator was breathy. Maybe 2 narrators, one female, one male. Too much detail. Could have been more concise.

Not your usual Linda Castillo

I was expecting the equivalent of the Kate Burkholder books but this doesn’t compare. Way too much drama but that might be the narrator as well as the author. I couldn’t wait for it to be over with.

Not very good

I enjoyed the book and story but was glad I was listening instead of reading. Seemed quite long.

Good book and good story

The breathy delivery of the narrator was a detractor from the story, which was ok.

The delivery was too breathy

I have enjoyed many Castillo books this one had a nice story but the blatant descriptive sex was to much. I don’t read romances exactly because of this. I prefer a story not unnecessary sex scenes that I just gas forward through.

Story good to much sex

Over acting/ so dramatic I wasted a credit on this . Will have to remember her. No future listens!

How awful the narrator is . I couldn’t keep track of the story. Injustice to a terrific authoor

I found this is the “medical thriller” category and it is a terrible romance novel. It’s beyond wordy, it’s intensely redundant on several levels.

This is not a thriller
