Publisher's summary

Two secret societies vie for control of the ultimate medical miracle - panacea - in the latest audiobook by New York Times best-selling author F. Paul Wilson.

Medical examiner Laura Hanning has two charred corpses and no answers. Both bear mysterious tattoos but exhibit no known cause of death. Their only connection to one another is a string of puzzling miracle cures. Her preliminary investigation points to a cult in the possession of the fabled panacea - the substance that can cure all ills - but that's impossible.

Laura finds herself unknowingly enmeshed in an ancient conflict between the secretive keepers of the panacea and the equally secretive and far more deadly group known only as 536, a brotherhood that fervently believes God intends for humanity to suffer, not be cured. Laura doesn't believe in the panacea, but that doesn't prevent the agents of 536 from trying to kill her.

A reclusive, terminally ill billionaire hires Laura to research the possibility of the panacea. The billionaire's own bodyguard, Rick Hayden, a mercenary who isn't who he pretends to be, has to keep her alive as they race to find the legendary panacea before the agents of 536 can destroy it.

Good entertainment but not great

I understand that with F. Paul Wilson's books there are certain things you have to accept within his universe, and that statement is not a criticism -- I love imaginative worlds that are well-constructed -- and usually I can take Wilson's world as a given and thoroughly enjoy his books. This one I had a little trouble with. It somehow just didn't come off as believable. I enjoy the author, and will listen to him again, but...this one wasn't as good as some of his others.

♡ Purely Enjoyable ♡

For a student in alchemy this was a pleasurable experience. Not many, or perhaps any books are written, that I can think of pertaining to the panacea in fiction. This was a real treat, from beginning to end. One of those, I can see this as a movie kind of books.

I never heard of this author before, now I'm on the second book. Honestly if the book doesn't catch my attention with in the first 5 min, I try to give it a chapter. This book had my full attention. Im a 5 star or no star kinda person. I either love it, but if a i hate it I don't even bother to give any stars, cuz why bother.

Anyways, I don't want to give any spoilers. However, if you're well versed in alchemy and have a curious mind for what goes on behind any veiled curtain of sorts, that will lead to scavenger hunt like adventure. Oh yeah, n this reader is amazing, kudos. The voices she does, as well as her own voice is beautiful.

I read some of the other comments, lol. To tell someone else not to waste there time or credit is a bit much, wow. To each their own. If u judge a book by just one comment like that, by a complete stranger u don't know... hmm... yeah well it is what it is.

Amazon is cool tho, if you don't like it thats on you and ya can just trade it in. No harm done.

Personally, I'm grateful for a clever book like this. I do a ton of research on the panacea, so this once again is pure pleasure for me♡

What do you think?

A cure all for anything? Something that everyone would want. But think of the ramifications.......Panacea will take you on that idea and just maybe you will change your mind. What ever it was.

Good story

Interesting, kept my attention. A little far fetched and predictable but still a book I would recommend.

Another winner

I've read almost everything written by Mr Wilson and enjoyed them all. This one isn't my favorite but it's very, very good. The narration was very well done.

Slightly above average story

A better narrator would have helped. Good idea, well written, but entirely predictable. The book may be better read than listened to, as Hillary Huber can not do male voices, and her female lead was whiny.

Dont get this one!

Avoid the kudos of other listeners. This book is unfocused and steeped in religion with rather nasty characters.

I know he needed to put Jack to bed, but…

Unlike some of the other reviews I found Hillary Huber’s performance O.K., if a bit breathy.
She has a lovely voice, and a range of character voices.

I wasn’t expecting an incredible start to a series, I started this book knowing it was new world with new rules. Repairman Jack is one of the best series of dark fantasy fiction I have ever read, so I am willing to go ahead and buy the next in this series expecting a better pace, plot and character development. It didn’t grab me by the back of my shirt and whisk me off on a thrilling ride, holding my attention for the entire book. It isn’t Repairman Jack, but I know he has another great series in him, so here’s hoping. If this is your first F Paul Wilson book, please treat yourself to the entire Repairman Jack series. Hopefully he will tie Jack’s world into this new world of his.
