About this listen

This "trimmed-to-the-bone medical cliff-hanger" by the New York Times bestselling author is "as good as the best of Robin Cook" (James Patterson).

Any student should consider themselves lucky to receive an invitation to apply to the Ingraham College of Medicine. About an hour outside of Washington DC, it's one of the most respected and prestigious institutions of its kind in the United States. With the school completely subsidized by the Kleederman Foundation, students receive a full-ride scholarship for all four years, including room and board. That's a hard deal for Quinn Cleary to pass up.

But after she and her new friend, Tim Brown, gain entrance into this dream school, everything soon becomes a waking nightmare as student after student begins behaving as if they were brainwashed. Now Quinn and Tim must hurry to uncover the dark truth before it's too late . . .

Medical Thriller

I never even read the synopsis of THE SELECT, all I saw was it was written by F. Paul Wilson and purchased immediately without any hesitation. F. Paul Wilson absolutely never disappoints and THE SELECT proved to be another very entertaining and exciting thriller. I hope Audible continues to produce more of Wilson’s back catalog in the future!

An authentic Medical Thriller

I enjoyed this book. I was swayed when I saw the comment by James Petterson on the main page. And I am glad I did. I loved all the debates and the story of this book. To find that this was written in 1993, I am even more impressed.

Thank you F. Paul Wilson.

Top medical school with a secret

F Paul Wilson’s The Select concerns a top-rated medical school that offers free tuition. The school is very selective, but one student who is not quite up to their criteria manages to get in. Her best friend at the school stumbles onto some information that suggests the school is ‘spying; on the students as well as brainwashing them. This leads to a student ending up as a medical experiment and declared to be missing. She never gives up on her friend and eventually manages to secure his release and expose the plot.

Wilson takes what appears as a progressive educational institution and adds a twist of ‘subtle’ big brother mentality through undeclared brainwashing to achieve what are otherwise laudable goals. While ostensibly regarded as science fiction, there’s a horror aspect that is downright haunting.

The narration is well done with good character distinction. Pacing is fine.

Well-written story with just enough technical detail and immense intrigue!

This is one of my favorite Audible books in a couple years. Great believable storyline, strong characters, interesting twists, overall intrigue. I’ve read his whole other series on Audible and he didn’t disappoint with this one either. Well done!!

Unrealistic and Underwhelming

I was intrigued by the premise and wanted to like the story, but the development fell flat, the characters unsympathetic and the latter half of the story was nothing more than a pile of predictable cliches thrown together to move the narrative along.
Based on the reviews, I had expected more.
