About this listen

Before Panic was our game, it was our secret. Before that, just a rumor. And before that? A ghost story. Listen close - but don’t believe everything you hear.

Panic is a legendary game played by graduating seniors in the middle-of-nowhere town of Carp, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher: After a series of challenges ranging from sleeping in a haunted house to running across a highway blindfolded, one winner takes home a cash prize in the tens of thousands at the end of the summer. Participating players are sworn to secrecy, which means little is known of Panic’s history. Until now.

Each of these three stories follows a former player connected to one of the game’s lingering mysteries - a ghost of Panic past, a legend. In this spellbinding novella, you’ll meet the quiet, unassuming kid who may have started it all; the golden boy who’d do anything to win; and the underestimated cheerleader who brought decades of family history into this dangerous game.

Panic: Ghosts and Legends is set in the world of the Amazon Original series Panic, available only on Amazon Prime Video.

About the Performer

Olivia Welch was born in a north-ish Texas town you’ve already forgotten the name of. At the ripe age of four her grandparents, who have very strong Southern accents, introduced her to the kind of movies she wasn’t allowed to watch at home. Movies like, but not limited to, Big Fish, Moulin Rouge, A Nightmare on Elm Street, the Tim Burton Batman flicks, and enough episodes of 48 Hours to put the show’s title to shame. This wide range of content sparked a deep love of acting and storytelling inside her. She proceeded to bombard her parents with this dream until they finally let her attend a film school one summer when she was but 11 years old. In all honesty, she was quite shy at the beginning of her journey, but she really loved creating characters and diving deep into her scripts. Just two years and an insane amount of hard work later, she became one of the youngest teachers at the film school. Her life then became a delicate balancing act of dividing her time between actual public school, acting for camera classes, and molding impressionable young minds as a student teacher, training them to be actors, as well as a small army she could use if she ever developed an arch enemy. At 17, she got her first big break in the form of a leading role on a Nickelodeon pilot that, unfortunately, never aired. With her newfound confidence and experience she decided to take on pilot season in Los Angeles. She booked a recurring role on Modern Family and became a part of the Marvel Universe through her role on Agent Carter. She also had a recurring role on an the Netflix original series Unbelievable. In 2018, she locked in the lead role on Amazon’s Panic. Welch is also the lead of the upcoming FOX film trilogy Fear Street.

Not what I was expecting

This was unexpected, but really good actually. Take a chance on it. It’s free and only a few hours long.

Abrupt ending

An interesting book with a good storyline. The use of different narrators Was a good choice. I am left feeling as though there’s something missing as the story abruptly ends with no real build up.

peacan rant

Story was good, performance was vexing. Story takes place in Texas. There people say "PAA-CON", the performers kept used the Northern USA enunciation "PEE-CAN'.

It drove me nuts that they got that detail wrong.

Intriguing story and mood

I enjoyed the writing and format. Every sentence felt meaningful. I really liked the first narrator and first part the most. Intriguing story and eerie mood overall.

Like an old folk lore gone wild. The last few haunting lines says it all.

eh....

it was OK.

3 short stories reminiscent of tales from the crypt, surrounding different years of graduating seniors of a podunk h.s.

they gamble on their lives because they are bored, wonder tales all.

A great story!

I wasn’t expecting much when I selected this book but was pleasantly surprised and couldn’t stop listening.
I liked all three narrators who really made it seem that they were telling a story that they had experienced.

Things we did as kids

Very realistic stories. Easy to get drawn in and remember the stuff we did.
