About this listen

For most couples, a quiet dinner for two at Auberge de la Reine Blanche on the Ile Saint Louis would be just the thing to smooth out the complications in a romance. But for gorgeous Mossad operative Delilah and trying-to-retire contract killer John Rain, nothing is ever easy, and when Rain sees a crew of hard-looking men setting up outside the restaurant, he realizes someone has been bringing her work home with her. Is it a hit - or something even worse? When it comes to killing, business and pleasure are the most dangerous mix of all.

A Short Interesting Story

This was a good short, but interesting story. It’s kind of hard to tell a good story in only three chapters. I would have wanted more. But no complaints.

It’s what it needs to be.

Any additional comments?

It’s a brief story, but as it it needs to be. It’s a sunset that shouldn’t have been more. I’m relieved it wasn’t. (Though I suspect the next Rain novel will be Rain saving Delilah and getting back with her....Graveyard of Memories is a flashback novel, like what Lee Child did with Reacher when delaying his journey to the voice of the woman in DC....if anyone knows what I’m talking about, ha.)

I’m not sure that the ending is left “open.” In real life people break up and don’t look back. I doubt that will being the case in series’ long run, but for now it is.

great short story

I normally dont listen to short stories but this one was an answer to why John and Delilah broke up. For fans of both of these characters, its a little more insight into their personalities.

Besides not liking the story very much

the sound quality was poor, the s's too sibilant.
Normally I find Eisler's voice pleasant to listen to. Not so much this time.
Also irritatingly sloppy pronunciation of French words.

More John Rain novels, please...

"Paris Is a Bitch" is too short, but Barry Eisler's John Rain is always satisfying. More John Rain novels, please.

I truly love that the author is doing audio

Author Eisler gives a lot of very specific answers to the whys anyone would have re: surveillance. Women especially should read or better, listen to his stories. If more did listen, many would be attacked less. Really gives skilled explanations for all actions taken. Plus strong male protagonist meets with. obviously respects and cares for strong, smart female. Eisler doesn't make his female characters overly talkative or bluntly rebellious to any suggestion the male might share with her. Many others do this, thinking it makes their characters "seem" smart. Case in point, John scouts out location, then watches for anomalies, whatever breaks or is outside regular patterns around him. There is no condescension toward the female. Clearly he knows that she can handle herself. John knows he can go a different direction than Delilah, because both are more than capable of handling themselves. There are times to ask lots of questions, and times to be quiet, to observe. Well written and fast-paced. Eisler is a master at this.
