About this listen

Featuring multicast narration, a lavish, Texas-sized Sweet Sixteen turns deadly in this twisty, pulse-pounding new novel—serving up a fresh take on a classic locked-room whodunnit. Let the festivities begin…

Today is Sophie Matthews’s sixteenth birthday party, an exclusive black-tie bash in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, where secrets are as deep-rooted as the sprawling live oaks. Sophie’s dad has spared no expense, and his renovated cliffside mansion—once thought haunted and shuttered for years from outsiders—is now hosting the event of the season. Then, just before the candles on the three-tiered red velvet cake are blown out, a body falls from the balcony onto the starlit dance floor below.

It’s a killer guest list . . .

DANI: Sophie’s new stepmother who’s been plagued by self-doubt ever since the birth of her own baby girl

ÓRLAITH: the superstitious Irish nanny who senses a looming danger in this cavernous house

MIKAYLA: the birthday girl’s best friend who is not nearly as meek as the popular kids assume

KIM: the cunning ex-wife who has a grudge she can’t let go of

Everyone is invited in. Not everyone will get out alive.

"Party of Liars explodes from page one: a stunning debut, a riveting page-turner, a brilliant exploration of motherhood and female desire. Every character is rich and complex, and I was stunned by the jaw-dropping twist at the end. This is the novel I'm always wanting to read: dazzling, terrifying, achingly beautiful. I never write reviews even though I read a lot. But this book has so many layers to it that you can’t stop listening! 10⭐️

So many layers!

Fans of Lucy Foley will love the lavish and beautiful, but slightly eerie setting, as well as the well-developed cast of complex characters that come alive through the wonderful readers/actors. Fans of Liane Moriarty will love Cox’s keen insight into the human psyche. The characters are written in a way that makes them very relatable, yet they reveal the notion that people are usually far more multidimensional than they may seem, or be perceived. Add the many twists and classic gothic vibe, and you have a “page-turner” (in the audible sense😊). The authentic Texas hill country town adds its own unique presence; this book is truly a Texas gem!

Binge-worthy gothic thriller

This book was a perfect blend of mystery, thrill, and a little bit of creepiness! I devoured it in 2 days!

The multiple narrators keep you going as they each share a little bit of the story at a time. They felt like real people to me! I had so many questions during reading, and the ending left me feeling so satisfied!

It’s also a celebration of women and a love letter to the state of Texas. Makes me proud to be a woman, a mom, and a Texan all at once!

Could Not Stop Listening!!!

Ah, so twisty and fun! Rich characters and SUCH a good voice cast. They really bring the characters to life - love a multi-POV. Beautiful, deep themes and an exciting pace. Would be great for a book club. Poignant prose and keeps you guessing the whole time.

Everything I want from the genre and excellent cast!

If you love literary mysteries with richly developed characters and intricate plots, don’t miss this intriguing story. Set in the Texas Hill Country, the story pulls you into the minds of its characters through masterful first-person narration, each with a motive for murder—or so it seems. This page-turner keeps you guessing until the final twist.

Yall, it’s SO good! So many deep and complicated characters. So thought provoking. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, another twist!!!! Love all the TX references. The writing, so many lines stick out. Kelsey’s descriptions of motherhood, specifically of an infant, spot on! I can’t wait to read the actual text with a highlighter!!!!!
