About this listen

When 13 year-old Penelope Gilbert accidentally transforms into a stapler during math class, she's sure she's going crazy. But she's not imagining the men in black suits now patrolling the halls at school, nor is she imagining the new substitute teacher who orders the class to take a special new test. A test that requires blood. Hunted for her powers, and torn from the life she knows, Penny is swept up into a world in the clouds where magic meets machine and pirates rule the sky.

Amazing kid's story

This story was extremely engaging. I felt the danger and fun that the characters were having. There was a steampunk feel to most of the book. I loved the world that we were transported to. I really want one of the owls we find in the end of the book.

If you have kids, this would be a perfect read with them. I enjoyed it being an adult and I know that children would also. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a bit of good clean fantasy!

Take flight in an unexpected way...

Shapeshifting, Pyrokenesis, and many other powers are abundant in this story. There are four I believe that relate to each element. This is Book 1 of a few as I see it. I wish the title said that. The story starts slow, showing off the villians and our heros journey to Azure.. finally when in Azure the REAL action begins and a story is taking off like a rocket. I liked how there was not much need for a back story as some books have, but that it incorporated alot into the storyline.

This is not for young children, maybe 10+ as it talks about murder and some issues with puberty.

Good middle school book

Although I'm not in the target audience for this book, I enjoyed it. I would guess that it's right for 4-8th graders. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Great for Kids and Young Adults

This was a good book with an interesting storyline. If you have kids anywhere from elementary school to early high school, they will probably enjoy this book. Even as an adult, I still enjoyed it. This would be a great book to play on a long car ride for the whole family.

Azure is a parallel world to Earth that can be reached by magical tunnels. Having been taken over by an evil King wanting to control all of the world's magic, some people have hidden their children on Earth for their safety, but nothing stays hidden forever...
Penelope is discovered and sent to the King's dungeons. It's up to Penelope to find a way for her and others to escape.

As I said this book was worth the listen. Kids who have enjoyed books like The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will like this book as well.

The narrator was also very good. I gave 5 stars, but would give a 4.5 if possible for just a few small parts of the narration that threw me off. Otherwise, the narration was top-notch.

I requested and received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

I could get into it... and I tried.

Any additional comments?

I tried to like this title, but I couldn't. I lost 'suspension of disbelief' in the first 2 minutes and couldn't get it back due to several nit-picks. The narrator has a good variety of voices, most of them silly sounding in my opinion. I only managed to suffer through the first two chapters. I know the author and narrator have to do a lot of hard work to provide a finished product and I gave them 3 stars for trying.
