Publisher's summary

Eight-grader Penny Preston thought she knew how to handle the Bodach, the spirits from the fifth dimension. But suddenly something is attacking the structure of the multiverse. Left unchecked, the attack will tear the fabric separating the dimensions and destroy the universe in a cataclysmic cosmic crunch. As the stress on the fabric grows, higher-dimensional energy escapes into Piper Falls, NY, reenergizing the Bodach. Emboldened, they use their regained powers to wreak havoc on the small town. The extra energy draws several new higher-dimensional entities to Piper Falls. One of them, a former Bodach commander, seeks to rally her followers and avenge her defeat at the hands of King Arthur more than 1,600 years ago by reestablishing her rule. The energy also attracts an especially destructive ethereal Celtic spirit, which has a special taste for ancient artifacts and exotic nuclear particles. The last of the new arrivals is a mysterious and conflicted shape-shifter a spy known as Newiddyn.

The interactions of the newcomers and their empowered brethren with the town's residents results in chaos and brings paranormal researcher Darin Kolchak back to town. Teamed with the deputy sheriff, their high technology investigation leads them to the local lab conducting state of the art nuclear fusion experiments. The same lab where Penny's parents work. Penny and her friends must again dodge detection, as they sort out the capabilities and intentions of these powerful entities. One bad choice or wrong step risks unleashing the apocalypse of the Darkest Day.

Another Great Addition to the Series

This book was equal to the previous two books in this series. It’s really good. Sometimes, the things they talk about are so scientific that it goes right over my head, but I think that’s one of the reasons I enjoy it. It’s so scientific that it seems truly believable in an unbelievable way. The characters are all great. Even Penny’s parents are awesome! I love how Penny is not an angsty teen with an awful relationship with her parents, like most teen books seem to have. She and Duncan both have fantastic families. I kind of hope they get more involved in the stories as the series moves on. Michelle Babb is an awesome narrator. I love her voice.

Penny Preston is back. And I am Cait Sith.

I could probably sum up the book with claiming the book having said "I AM Cait Sith." (and thus being awesome and generally amazing). Which is... actually true.
I love Armen Pogharian's Misaligned series that follows Penny, her cat (well, Cait Sith) Simon, Duncan and their friends.
I'd say it's a Young Adult fantasy series that includes a lot of references to Welsh mythology and the legends around Athur and his knights. In a way it has many qualities that Rick Riordan's Heroes of the Olymp series have, too - for which I have a bit of a weak spot.
This book adds more focus on Arthur's timeline, adding context and backstory to our beloved friends (and some of our foes).

I greatly enjoyed the story. I have listened to it in more or less 2-3 sessions, just because I couldn't pause it :)

Michelle Babb did a terrific job. She is fantastic building out the characters as well as the dialogues full of depth, emotion and quirk, mastering heartbreak as well as tongue in cheek or snarky comments. Or terrifying wannabe-overlords.

Enjoyed story

This is book three in a series and was a pleasure to listen to. I have truly enjoyed all the Penny Preston books! The narrator, Michelle Babb, did a wonderful job bringing all the characters to life. I would like to thank the author, narrator, or publisher for providing me this audiobook at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review & I look forward to listening to more books by both the narrator & the author.

A thrilling fantasy tale

"Penny Preston and the King's Blade: Misaligned, Book III" is a thrilling and action-packed fantasy adventure that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats.

The story is well-written, with a fast-paced plot that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish. The characters are well-developed, with realistic motivations and flaws that make them relatable and interesting. The world-building is also excellent, with a rich mythology and history that adds depth and texture to the story.

I fully endorse it to anyone who enjoys epic fantasy, adventure, and strong female protagonists.

Arthurian legends with a twist

Penny and her friends will have to fight being from other dimensions again. Like in the second book, the story begins shortly after the previous installment, and is triggered by the events that happened at the end of it. This means that this book, like the second book, is not meant to be read as a standalone.

The story was again interesting, engaging, and complex. It visited the Arthurian legends but with a twist to include magical elements and beings from other dimensions. There are two storylines in this book: one happening in the present day with Penny and her friends as main characters, and another one in the past, in the time of Arthur and his knights. There is plenty of action, and many events happen in a short amount of time. This is a book to focus on, as there are many important details that we don’t want to miss to be able to follow the story. It’s an incredibly fresh and original take on Celtic legends, and it’s one that I’d recommend to anyone into fantasy and historical fiction regarding Arthurian Legends. The characters are unique, charismatic, and quirky, and we see an evolution from the first book to this one. There are also funny and lighthearted moments, which makes for an upbeat reading.

Michelle Babb did a fantastic job narrating this book, delighting the listener with expressive character interpretations. Her compelling tone kept me engaged from beginning to end, despite the complexity of the story. Babb has a special talent to provide each character with a unique voice and style, making the audiobooks she narrates a terrific experience for the listener.

My Favorite in Series

Penny and her friends are tasked with saving the multiverse when they discover that someone or something is wreaking havoc on their small town. They need to find who is behind this destruction and keep trying to keep the ghost hunter and police from getting too close to them.

I am enjoying reading this series. This is my favorite in the series so far. The characters both, main and secondary, are entertaining and likable. The setting of a small town where everyone knows everyone makes keeping the secrets of the multiverse hard. This aspect helps to create some humorous situations. The mystery aspect of each story is right up my alley as a mystery fan.

I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator is fantastic at bringing the characters and story to life. She brings out each character's personality allowing the listeners to lose themselves in the story.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

Penny Preston is the best teen fantasy heroine!

I am overjoyed at the awesomeness of this third book of the Penny Preston series!  We get a lot of exciting time with the intrepid Penny Preston and her team saving the day with magic, physics, and math.  In this book they are even saving the very fabric of the multiverse!  Penny is so cool under pressure, very intelligent, and super-talented.  She is a great role model for girls.  Her special cat Simon is amazing and funny as always.  Mr. Myrthen (spelling?) and Mr. Poe are fascinating and amusing as always.

This book 3 is well paced, well-organized, and exciting.  There is only one past timeline, and it was always clear that it had relevance to the present (unlike in Book 2).  There is a lovely happy ending, and the ending seems to leave it possible for future additions to the series.  I really hope that the author will write more Penny Preston books.  I totally recommend this series to teens in eighth grade or higher and to all adults.  They should be read in order.

The narration by Michelle Babb is very good.  She does a great job with all the American and Welsh accents.  She is very versatile with men’s and women’s voices.  I love how she narrates action scenes and everything.  Duncan’s voice and the deputy’s voice sound very similar, but I can overlook that slight imperfection in the narration.

I requested and received a free audio copy from the narrator, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Another excellent Penny Preston Book

ALl three books in tis series have been great. I would recommend reading them in order. This could stand alone but you miss a lot of the background if you start with this one.

Again, Michelle Babb, has made listening to this book very enjoyable. She is one of my favorite narrators. Excellent narration as usual.
