Publisher's summary
Born in a time of violent upheaval, young Odion and his little sister, Tutelo, live in fear that one day Yellowtail Village will be attacked. When that day comes, and Odion and Tutelo are marched away as slaves, Odion's only hope is that his parents are coming to rescue them.
They are. But War Chief Koracoo and Deputy Gonda think they are tracking an ordinary war party herding captive women and children to an enemy village. Instead, they are following close on the heels of a legendary evil, an old witch-woman named Gannajero, who captures children for her own purposes.

Story
One thousand years in the future, the zyme, a thick blanket of luminous green slime, covers the oceans. Glaciers three-miles-high rise over the continents. The old stories say that when the Jemen, godlike beings from the past, realized their efforts to halt global warming had gone terribly wrong, they made a desperate gamble to save life on earth and recreated species that had survived the worst of the earth's Ice Ages. Sixteen-summers-old Lynx and his best friend Quiller are members of the Sealion People - archaic humans known as Denisovans.

Story
Ordered to hold an abandoned army post, John Dunbar found himself alone, beyond the edge of civilization. Thievery and survival soon forced him into the Indian camp, where he began a dangerous adventure that changed his life forever. Set in 1863, the novel follows Lieutenant John Dunbar on a magical journey from the ravages of the Civil War to the far reaches of the imperiled American frontier, a frontier he naively wants to see "before it is gone".

Homicide is always an abomination, but there is something exceptionally disturbing about the victim discovered in a high, lonely place: a corpse with a mouth full of sand, abandoned at a crime scene seemingly devoid of tracks or useful clues. Though it goes against his better judgment, Navajo tribal police lieutenant Joe Leaphorn cannot help but suspect the hand of a supernatural killer.

The great Oglala Sioux chief Red Cloud was the only Plains Indian to defeat the United States Army in a war, forcing the American government to sue for peace in a conflict named for him. At the peak of their chief’s powers, the Sioux could claim control of one-fifth of the contiguous United States. But unlike Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, or Geronimo, the fog of history has left Red Cloud strangely obscured. Now, thanks to painstaking research by two award-winning authors, his incredible story can finally be told.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Twenty years later and no longer a child, Chakliux occupies the revered role as his tribe’s storyteller. Read it for the History
On the one hand, I love the study of the past. The historical insights garnered from the introduction were worth the price of the book. But my challenge with this book was in the anglicized portrayal of the Native Americans. To me they thought, spoke and reacted like white people. Getting into the head of a living culture requires a submersion into a mindset. This in no way effects my respect to the authors for their valuable historical insights.

Mixed Feelings
I had mixed feelings on this one. Like all the Gear's novels it was well researched, well writen, violent, and interesting. I was interested all the way through, a good read, well narrated too. It has well developed charactors, from the female war chief Koracoo, her estranged husband and deputy Gonda, vicious and scary witch Ganajero, and many others. My problem was the end. It felt like the the authors ran out of time or something and just cut off the book. Things were building up to an exciting climax then it's over. Still worth listening to, just slightly frustrating. I wish Audible would get one of their truly fantastic ones, like "People of the Lakes" (their best in my opinion) or "People of the Lightning". Back to this one, it is violent, violence towards children this time, not super graphic, but still might be hard for some to take. Might be more of an adult's book, although I think I started reading their books as a teenager, so I'm sure some teens would enjoy it too.

WHAT HAPPENED///
I have to say that disappointing doesn't begin to describe my opinion of this book. What happened, their fixin to go and get the other children.......then what?
I've read all of the "People Of The..." books and this was a true let down. Can I get my money back or do the Gears really want to loose so many readers with this horrible offer?

Disappointing
I have read every book in this series and this is my least favorite. I didn't remember not enjoying this book, and then I realized it was solely due to the narrator. It was often a struggle keeping characters straight due to his lack of inflection.
There are so very many really truly exceptional books in this series.... just don't make the mistake of listening to this one. Hopefully it's the only time he is used as a narrator in this series.
