About this listen

The New York Times best-selling queen of romantic suspense returns with a heart-racing tale in which a former soldier turned rancher and a beautiful designer race to stop a vicious killer - a battle for survival that threatens to explode in an intense and irresistible passion.

An art dealer and owner of her own design studio, Perfect Touch, Sarah "Sam" Maddox travels the world to find the ideal artwork for her clients. Her sophisticated, comfortable life in San Francisco is light years away from the poverty of her family's dairy farm, and Sam will do whatever it takes to keep her business strong. A dedicated urban career woman focused on her work, she doesn't have time or energy for a family or distracting romantic entanglements.

Jay Vermillion recently inherited Vermillion Sky, a working ranch near Wyoming's breathtaking Grand Teton Mountains - and the estates of the rich and restless. While he was fighting in two wars, his father tried to keep the homestead running, until illness stole his fight and then his life. Jay's determined to restore Vermillion Sky, but first he's got to settle a vicious battle with his former stepmother over some of his late father's paintings. The last thing on his mind is a finding a wife and creating a sixth generation of Vermillions.

When Jay hires Sam to handle his father's artwork, it's love at first sight - a mutually inconvenient attraction that is soon complicated by a double murder at the edge of the ranch and a potential betrayal even closer to home. Working together to unmask a murderer, Sam and Jay try to fight the intense heat between them. Then the killer targets Sam. And suddenly Jay, the war-weary soldier, finds something he's once again willing to die for....

Lowell is back!

Any additional comments?

I've missed Lowell's romance novels, historical or not. She was the writer that got me started reading romance books a few years ago. After reading one, I scoured used book stores and Amazon until I had found and read everything she'd ever written under her own name. Her thrillers just didn't interest me, I've read them all because it was by Lowell, but they were blah at best. However, this book is the return to the romance/suspense novel that I'd been wanting. The h's business is helping people sell works of art, getting the best price they can. The H owns a ranch and dozens of paintings by an obscure, long dead artist who had recently shot to fame due to an independent film. Many people are queuing up with their hands out wanting a piece of the action. Half-brothers, step-mothers, auction houses, ranch hands, reporters, and all manner of others are stirred into the mix...suspects and plot twists abound! As only Lowell can do, she weaves these threads and so many others into a sexy and suspenseful tale. The H, ex-military, is gorgeous and studly, naturally. The h is smart and driven and gorgeous, naturally. They come together with sparks that become an inferno, naturally...lol! The Lowell framework is there, comfortable as old boots, but sexy as a pair of red high heels. I like that the H/h have been getting to know each other via the phone for quite some time, thus avoiding insta-love. I also liked that the H wasn't quite so alpha as a lot of H's are these days. He cares about this woman, and is interested in her brain at least as much as her body. He's not afraid to be gentle, even in front of other people. However, he is also very protective of her, and she (mostly) lets him because they're in dangerous situations. There is a scene where she's making stupid decisions, but it's understandable due to a crisis she's just been through. I love Lowell's American west stories. The land and it's mysteries become a character of their own. She evokes the wildness, the relentless wind, the treacherous terrain, the awesome beauties and dangers of the west. That world comes alive and transports me into its heart as I read/listen to her prose. Well done, Ms Lowell and welcome back! This book is as good as most of her other romances, especially the ones in the American west. It doesn't disappoint, and I can honestly say I'm looking forward to the next romance she brings us! I heartily recommend this one, and its a great place for newbies to start reading Lowell since it's a stand-alone.

Can’t stop till the end....

It is an entertaining novel. Ms. Lowell did it again!!! The main characters Jay & Sarah are very humane, sensitive & w/ a sense of humor.
I can easily relate to them.
Ms. Lowell has been a fave Author since 3 decades ago.
I am looking forward to another of her stories.

Perfect Story, Perfect Performance

Would you listen to Perfect Touch again? Why?

Yes !! I have read all of the printed novels by this husband and wife writing team and love everything Elizabeth Lowell publishes. I would purchase every audiobook available, but unfortunately the narrator who reads approximately 99% of them is horrible - she absolutely can not "do" the voices of men !! It was delightful to hear Ms. Zanzarella's wonderful narration - more of her please Audible !!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Perfect Touch?

When Sarah and Jay finally take a positive stand against his step-mother and brother. And, of course, there was the truly great love scenes between the two of them !!

What does Nicol Zanzarella bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a remarkable narration - each character is very distinct - obviously that is a treat you can not receive from the printed page.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Perfect Touch" would work for me.

Any additional comments?

No comment on this audiobook - just a question for Audible: you offer many options for your customers, i.e., abridged, unabridged, a variety of languages, etc., why are there no options as to narrators ? In the same manner as Elizabeth Lowell's books - I would purchase the entire series of Stephen White's "Dr. Gregory" audibooks if they were read by another narrator - say Jonathan Davis - but NEVER by the man who "reads" the series offered now.

Good story, good characters, needed editing!

Would you try another book from Elizabeth Lowell and/or Nicol Zanzarella?

Yes, I really like Elizabeth Lowell

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Holy smokes, where was the editing on this. Can we say TOO MANY FLOWERY CLICHES! It made a good story line just sound cheesy or repetitive in many areas.

Was Perfect Touch worth the listening time?

The story was really good, and I liked the characters. But the descriptions/comparisons and cliches became overwhelming. I just listened to it for a second time, and not even a fourth of the way into it I remembered this from the first listen.

not Elizabeth Lowell's best book.

As a fan of Elizabeth Lowell, I have fairly high expectations for a great story. This story was too predictable and very unlike Elizabeth Lowell. The narrator did okay. But she was no Anne Flosnik. At times I did not know who was supposed to be speaking since the voices used by the narrator were not that different. The book was not terrible, nor was it great, hence the rating of 3.
