About this listen

Claire Barclay, owner of a mystery book tour company, collects three women at the Manchester airport who have flown in from Tucson, Arizona, then starts on a tour of Yorkshire and the sites of mystery novels. She meets the rest of the tour in York: two British couples and Phillip, a single man.

Claire has scheduled stops at sites of interest, starting with the York Chocolate Factory. Here, in pursuit of Phillip who will not stick with the tour, she finds the body of a security guard. She cannot see any connection with her tour and leaves York, driving the group up on the moors and stopping at the famous Ralph's Cross where moorland stretches for miles. Here, her American ladies report the sudden death of Phillip in the surrounding bog.

Detective Inspector Mark Evans, a friend of Phillip's and Claire's significant other, investigates. Mark tells her Phillip worked for Scotland Yard and was on the trail of a drug distribution scheme. Claire is determined her Tucson ladies will not be dragged into the murder inquiry or any other police investigation, but they are determined they will. They are intelligent, expert mystery novel fans, and observant. They precipitate Claire and themselves into a confrontation with the murderer.

The narration justly brings forth the artfully crafted language, including the turn of a phrase and colloquial Welsh.

Exceptional narrator and beautifully visceral language

This was the third book in this series and I wish it would continue. All of the stories and characters are very interesting and relatable as well as the details of the sites and surrounding areas……

So comfortable

I enjoy the way the author develops the characters in her books. I usually like the story that goes along with her tours. This book was a so heavy on the tour, and Claire’s burgeoning romance with Mark, I found it tedious. The drawn-out last bit (after the villain was captured) was painful. The “interviews” - so much time spent in ordering food! I kept waiting for something else to happen, feeling sure the author wouldn’t keep going on and on about the river, the vet, the vet’s new girlfriend, the vet’s daughter, the vet’s daughter’s ne’er do well boyfriend, etc. just for the sake of…. what?? Developing the community part of Claire’s life? Whatever she was trying to accomplish, I wish I’d stopped listening after the villian was caught.

Enjoyed the first two books more

Perils in Yorkshire is an entertaining cozy mystery. The characters are engaging and the mystery is entertaining. Each book is filled with interesting details of a region in the UK. I love this series and look forward to the next book in this series.

I love how the author introduces other authors. I like this series, because the characters seem more real. A great listen, narrative is fantastic!

Great idea for other books

this author definitely has an agenda and, while as a healthcare professional, it's an agenda I completely agree with, I (bcos of the stress of working in the field) prefer to avoid even thinking about that debate. so, if you also have chosen cozies due to a stressful career, you may find this series also sits on the outer edge of your tolerance (in terms of relaxation).
but the writing is excellent and I think this series would be ideal for a long roadtrip

bit heavy for a cozy but writing is excellent

I love the realistic characters in this series. Hope to see more of this kind of excellent writing from this author. Her books so far contain all the elements of an interesting storyline that keep your interest with twists & humor, mystery, murder, (more than one) & clean romance. The setting of the English countryside & villages in today’s world keeps your interest with the feeling that you’ve actually traveled to these unique villages & townships. Narrator is excellent!

ANOTHER EXCELLENT READ!
