About this listen

He loves his wife and daughter. He tolerates his day job. He lives to fish.

William Buckner has been competing in local bass fishing tournaments for years with very limited positive results (like so many anglers). He struggles with the fact that a handful of his fellow competitors always seem to finish near the top. Is it luck? Do they get secret, insider information? Are they using better equipment than he can afford?

Follow along behind the scenes of tournament bass fishing as the voice in this angler's head wrestles with highs and lows, unexpected dangers, true friendship, lies and scandals in pursuit of his personal best.

Personal Best: Fishing and Life is not a "how-to" manual, but instead an entertaining, fictional story, loaded with very real information that just might make you think about your approach to fishing and/or life.

As a tournament angler, I found this story very relatable and very true in detail. Loved the delivery and the story was fantastic to follow along with. The author did a fantastic job of telling a story, sharing information, and relating tournament angling to everyday life! Well done!

It was a good story. I liked that there were times where I was able to "predict" what was coming, but not in a way that took away from the story, but rather, enriched it. Definitely a good book for any fisherman!

I'm not a reader generally, and this was my first Audible book. It "took me away", made me want to get another book to listen to, and I'm no longer concerned about a 10+ hour long reading either.

Great experience overall!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Any one who's into bass fishing or just fishing in general would love this book. It gave me a new perspective on ones mindset when fishing a tournament. How positive thinking and confidence can help change a bad situation into something great.

What other book might you compare Personal Best: Fishing and Life to and why?

I've looked for something similar and have yet to find. Mike Iaconelli's book was good. It gave you a look at his life and his fishing experiences, but it was a biography and not a written in the form of story. Granted a damn good biography.

What does Kurt Mazurek bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He wrote it so the guy knew how to present it and he did a damn good job at it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

nothing extreme. There was a couple people who really got under my skin. When William tells his wife about the results of the tournament I thought that was pretty emotional. Oh the wife Trixy has got to be fictional. Lets William go fishing in a tournament and cooks his favorite meal for him when he gets home.

Any additional comments?

I would love to read more fishing books like this. I've listened to it 3 times so far.
