About this listen

Determined not to grow up, Peter Pan has escaped to Neverland. But when he loses his shadow, his attempt to reclaim it brings him into contact with the Darling children, Wendy, John, and Michael. Peter teaches them to fly and convinces them to come back to Neverland with him - but when they find a dark island besieged by pirates and Red Indians, Wendy learns that dreamed-about Neverlands are all too often tinged with darker realities as well. Expertly narrated by Donal Donnelly, this classic tale will take you past the second star to the right and straight on till morning.

Editorial reviews

Narrator Donal Donnelly's soothing grandfatherly voice is ideal for a story that combines adventure and fantasy. His range alters as the action changes from the comfort and familiarity of the nursery to the scariness of Captain Hook's pirate ship. Donnelly's style is particularly adept with Barrie's subtle humor. Mr. Darling is especially funny when he relegates himself to Nana's doghouse after the children disappear. Each voice is distinct, whether it's that of harsh Captain Hook, persuasive Peter Pan, or little Michael Darling. Most enjoyable for listeners is Donnelly's success at creating a feeling of being included in the story's action.

Critic reviews

"Donnelly's narration of Peter Pan represents one more triumphant performance of Barrie's classic fantasy. Irish actor Donnelly handles Barrie's asides to the listeners deftly, so that the mood and placing of the adventure are not disrupted." (Kliatt)

Where have you been? Hiding in Neverland?!?!?!

I love a good story, and JM Barrie tells and amazing one with Peter Pan. Reading this, you can truly remember the Neverland of your childhood. I recommend anyone who was once a child (that should be everyone...if not, let me know, good scifi there!) listen to this. If I could change one thing it would be to have this performed by a full cast, I always love to have different voices for my characcters. Still a great read!

save your money / time

If you'd like to be swept away by this tremendous story (that too many know only from its Disney version), don't stop here. Go to the version read by Tim Curry. You'll in no way regret it.

This is a very poor-quality recording.
