Am I fake dating my best friend? Hear me out....

So I'm throwing myself a breakup party, a glittery fete where I envision I'll lift a glass and celebrate being free and single again. What I actually do: drink too much champagne and blurt out to my best guy friend that I'd really like to get back on the horse. But what I truly don't expect is Carter's answer—he volunteers as tribute.

With his sinful brown eyes and too-good-to-be-true body, it'd be no hardship for me to say yes, though I certainly don't want him to feel obligated to, um, service me, just because my failed, loveless marriage was an s-e-x desert.

But since the charming and confident pro football star owes five public dates to his dating-app sponsor, we make a deal to help each other out. Pretty soon, our public how-to-date lessons turn into, ahem, very private ones. And I'm a star student, graduating quickly from flirty banter and lingering looks to toe-curling, sheet-grabbing, mind-blowing hours of physical education.

The problem? Turns out learning to date again feels a lot like the real thing. Can our friendship withstand all these late-night bedroom sessions? Especially since I'm suddenly longing for my best friend, and there's nothing fake about my feelings...

Fun with spice!

Oh, it's so easy to fall in love with Rachel and Carter! As Rachel is celebrating her new found freedom. Divorce was never something she thought would happen to her, but do to the circumstances, she is as glad as she can be that it's over. Now back in San Francisco, she is able to spend more time with her best friend Carter. When things get a little crazy though, their relationship begins to change. He needs to satisfy a contract with a dating app, and Rachel is more than willing to help, that is as long as he gets her back on the horse as she states. Lauren Blakely takes us on a fun filled romance, sizzling with chemistry and loaded with smiles. The witty banter, the spicy scenes and the all around fun I had listening to this gem made my day. Carter, though the handsome football player he is, has eyes for only one woman. I love his inner monologue as he deals with his feelings! Rachel is a mess, but slowly untangles her life and realizes there is a lot more to love than she was ever shown. Blakely weaves a wonderful story of friendship and love and made me smile as I was listening.

OK, the smiling could be due to Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton. After all, with a narrator team like this, I knew I was in for a treat. Mallon gives us Rachel, a bit insecure until she's not and a heart that isn't quite sure what to do. Hamilton brings that extra warmth with Carter, letting Rachel feel warm and fuzzy, but he too adds that slight lack of confidence when it comes to love. I loved this narration, it could not have been better cast and was a joy to listen to.

So Much Fun and Endearing! I Enjoyed It!

Plays Well With Others by Lauren Blakely was so endearing and witty; I didn’t want to stop listening!

Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton did an outstanding job narrating this audiobook, and their voices were the perfect combination to bring the main characters, Rachel and Carter, story to fruition! Erin Mallon’s interpretation of Rachel matched the character’s emotions and personality so well. She gave Rachel a brazen yet vulnerable characterization that was perfect. Teddy Hamilton also voiced Carter’s charming, loyal, and scandalously sexy personality flawlessly.

This audiobook was so much fun and endearing! For those who love best friends to lover’s romance tropes, and an adventurous female heroine they’ll be invested in this audiobook!
I always enjoy Lauren Blakely’s work and her voice casting decisions for her stories. I look forward to the next audiobook that comes out from the author!

Loved This One!

What a beautiful story of friends who experiment opening the door to more to find that more is where they want to stay!

These characters and how their friendship blossomed into more was so beautiful and poetic.

The constant doubt from both sides instead of talked to each other was kind of hard to get through HOWEVER Rachel just got out of a long relationship that broke her so her instincts are a little broken and Carter held back a teeny bit too long but also started their tryst on solid foundation of friendship grounds as he was also not long out of a broken relationship.

This gem was narrated by Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton who are two of my absolute favorite narrators

Another win for Lauren!

Carter and Rachel are so good in this book! I love the best friends to love and Lauren Blakely always makes me feel good. The fact that she researched ADHD is just one of the things that make her books great! She wants inclusion for everyone and I feel the same way. Thanks for another great book!

Loved it!

I love it when friends become lovers. It’s becoming my new favorite trope. It was just sweet and spicy. Pure perfection.

Meh 🫤 Too explainy

I set Lauren Blakely away for a while and just recently came back and while I think I normally would have liked anything she wrote, I think I can best describe this book as too “explainy”. The first half of the story is both characters spend a lot of time explaining their idiosyncrasies to the point that it just seemed like filler on a page. I didn’t fall in love with either main character in this book. I’m glad I bought this during the holiday sale for less than the cost of a credit or I’d be returning this one.

could get enough

My favorite trope is friends to lovers and Lauren did not disappoint. My only criticism is that it distracted me from things I should have been doing instead of being completely immersed in the story of Rachel and her hot jock bestie, who was a complete test best with his well-planned dates with Rachel to show her how a man treats a woman he cares about. ❤️

Fun, Lighthearted Friends to Lovers!

Not many Daily Deals come along that interest me, but when a Lauren Blakely title was a DD it was a no-brained! What a fun book! I enjoyed it from the beginning, and finished it within a day. Great narration….cant beat Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon for a romcom. Highly recommend!

R rated, maybe X rated in some scenes

Sex scenes are too graphic and kinky for my taste. I guess a cultural difference.
