Publisher's summary
Ponniyin Selvan is a historical novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, written in Tamil. In five volumes, it tells the story of early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I. The book took more than three years to write; Kalki visited Sri Lanka three times to gather information for it.
Ponniyin Selvan is widely considered by many to be the greatest novel ever written in Tamil literature. It was first published as a series in the Kalki, a Tamil language magazine, during the 1950s and was later integrated into a novel. The craze for the series, which was published weekly, was such that it elevated the magazine circulation to reach a staggering figure of 71,366 copies - no mean achievement in a newly independent India.
Even today, the novel has a cult following and fan base among people of all generations. The book continues to be admired and garner critical acclaim for its tightly woven plot and vivid narration, the wit of the dialogue, and the way in which the power struggle and intrigues of the Chola empire were depicted.
Please note: This audiobook is in Tamil.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Highly highly recommend!
Brilliantly done by Bombay Kannan and friends. The story of Ponniyin Selvan of course is one that we all have known and loved, but the narration and dialogue by the different voice artists transports us to another dimension. Special shout-out to the artist who played Prince Arulmozhi Varmar, he exhibited the perfect blend of sedate and regal. Wonderful experience listening to the book overall!

Enjoyable. Especially LOTR background score 😂
The story itself needs no review. The narration, voice actors have done an amazing job. The lotr background score being used here was a funny but apt for an epic saga like this.

Back ground music was too loud
The back ground scores at some scenarios was really good, At some places, it was too loud to hear the narration. The melodies of the songs were not that impressive.

Simply outstanding
Extremely well done audiobook. This is not just one person reading from the book. Multiple voices used for conversations makes it sound like an enactment. Background score matching each scene is a great addition.
Could have used more majestic voices for Vandhiyathevan and Arul Mozhi Varmar.

An Audible Feast of the Legendary Epic Series
Outstanding narration! Background music, the various narrators depicting each character altogether were an audible feast brought to life. The diction and intonation hooked me. Excellent audiobook narration by Bombay Kannan.

The story plot that built a cult following deserves its status every bit
Cult story that helps foster pride in the history of Chola kingdom . Riveting storyteller that Kalki is and Bombay kannan s reading brings this classic to new heights . Dasarathy s voice over as One of the main characters would have embellished this further . I have hunted for this version high and low before finding it on audible
