Black Paradise Circus bk 1

This was a mystery with way too many characters.I found it repetitive and a bit irritating. There is a circus in town, kids go missing and circus actors get hurt and then replaced.A cop hires the girls from the ice cream store...and their friends to investigate. We never find out what happened to the kids...there is a book 2.
I was given this book for an honest review.

Circus setting,...

What did you like best about Portman Creameries Cases? What did you like least?

The characters act in very unlikely ways investigating. The police ask a group of women to infiltrate a mysterious circus where children have been disappearing in the Circus' travels. hmmm... Then information uncovered is withheld from police.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The setting and plot fell down. The narration was good. Conversation was stilted. This isn't Toby Tyler or The Greatest Show on Earth.

Have you listened to any of Joan DuKore’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't so I wont compare something I don't have a reference of.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

This was sent for review. I feel let down.

Light Mystery

that leaves you hanging at the end. If you want to wrap up the mystery started in this listen, you must download the next book. I'm used to authors wrapping up the main mystery in each book of a series and then giving a teaser to let you know that the overarching case will be solved at the end of the series.

The buildup is flat for this book and it seems like you are revisiting the same scenes over and over again and getting the same pieces of information multiple times. It didn't keep my interest and I won't be moving on to the next installment to find out who is killing the children.

The narration was decent but not spectacular. I would listen to another narration by Joan Dukore.

My inner 10 year old liked most of this

I read a few of the reviews before listening to this book and was ready to not like it. It was okay, even pretty good in parts. My inner 10 year old came out to listen and was happy with the characters and the way they fussed with each other. Then, out of the blue, came a short dialogue about having sex with a banana and dying. Really. Did the author have to put that in so that it wouldn't be classified as rated G? Is that even a thing with books? I was so thrown off by that that my inner kid went into hiding for most of the rest of the book.
The narrator did a pretty good job with different characters, giving them voices that made sense to my ear.
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review. I would listen to the second installment. The circus background is interesting to me.

Warning! Continuing Saga!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I do not think that I would pick it up again. Ending just bummed me out.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Sucked!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes it did. I could tell the difference between the caricatures voices and did not have to guess who they were.

Do you think Portman Creameries Cases needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

YES. It didn't finish.

Any additional comments?

Should let people know that this is part of a saga and it will take a couple of books to finish it.

I really liked the cast of characters assembled in this book. The ladies from the creamery who just happen to help the police solve crimes. I couldn't stop listening, but all of a suddden it was over and we have a cliffhanger. I hope I won't have to wait too long for the next installment.

The narration was well done, the characters were well portrayed.

Interesting For Sure

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast.

Not the ending I was expecting. The beginning really got me hooked into the storyline. I used to not anything that had to deal with circuses and clowns, so this was a setting for me. The narrator, Joan DuKore, did a great job bringing the characters to life. Listening to the book, I was not prepared for the ending at all! There was also a strange part about having sex with a banana, not sure what that was all about.

I don't know if I will be continuing with the series, but it was an interesting listen.

The book was okay

Any additional comments?

I think the author could have done with less characters. Personally, I prefer that the main mystery end with the book. I received this audiobook for free Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.
