About this listen

The officer responding to a 911 call at one of Houston's hippest high-rises expected the worst. After all, domestic violence situations can be unpredictable. But nothing could've prepared him for what he found: a beautiful woman drenched in blood, an older man lying dead on the floor, and a cobalt blue suede stiletto with tufts of white hair stuck to its five-and-a-half-inch heel.

With her stunning looks, magnetic personality, and erratic behavior, Ana Trujillo had a notorious reputation on the downtown Houston scene. She spoke often of occult powers, though few knew how deeply she believed such boasts. Stefan Andersson was a gentle soul, a Swedish transplant with a good career and trusted friends, who was desperate to find someone special. Theirs is a story of obsession, madness, and tragedy. Because once Stefan fell head over heels for Ana, he was under her control - and he didn't have a chance in hell.

Devastating

This is one of the saddest true crime stories I have read lately. Don’t get me wrong, they are all sad. Domestic abuse and violence happens in the reverse too. Usually it is the woman who is being abused; however, men are abused by women too. Stefan was warned, told, and talked with by many of his friends and, believe it or not, strangers too to get Ana out of his life. He decided on that action just a bit late though and the world lost a brilliant mind.

Gripping !

I feel I now know everything on all sides about the people in this book. Heartbreaking and absolutely gripping. Although there was a brief moment in the book that was a little slow for me - when the arrest happened for some reason I thought I knew the rest and became a little bored with the details but boy was I mistaken... it just got even more fascinating and I had to keep listening. I have the audio version and the Narrator is incredible.
I just also listened to Fallen Girls by Casey and it was very intriguing and I could not stop listening to that one either. Is Casey the new Anne Rule?

So Very Sad !!! Tragic, unnecessary !

Ms Kathryn Casey, has become at the now top of my favorite true crime writer's. I struggled with Mr Anderson, and his kind soul ! you Mr Anderson, will never be forgotten through the writing which keeps you and your family and friend's, in our prayer's and heart and Soul's. Mr Anderson, a person, a man whom many of us would have loved and had the privilege to be friends, coworker with, whom brought so much to help others !!! The Narrator was really excellent. 5 Stars to you. Heather Auden ! you did a excellent job !!!! In so far as what a difference this made. This is mine, although I'm no scientist, I am a person who cares and have been told becareful.... ! I pretty much am in so far as helping other's. I will be more careful in how you can be deceived, but still I will care. So on to my next book.... ( Audible ) , unabridged. Regards: L. B. Nelson :)

Great writer

It is accurate, I am in the book. Ana was an interesting lady and I wish her well and hope she can get better. She was wrong in what she did, but she needs help.

I also enjoyed the narrator.

She has a very pleasant voice to listen to and didn’t spend time striving to read in an unnatural voice. She did a great job!

one of the best ever.

Would you consider the audio edition of Possessed to be better than the print version?

I do not know

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The enormous detail and utter clarity of the narrator. The voice of the author gave me a sense of confidence in a story that was so troublesome and even unbelievable, The writing talent for me was so obviously above most that I would put her on the level and even a cut above Ann Rule. I am going to read more of her books.

What about Heather Auden’s performance did you like?

Wonderful!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I had a reaction of extreme sadness and longing for a life that will be no longer due to such tragic circumstances. I myself believe that Trujillo was a victim of drugs and cult psychology that gave her the sense of invincibility. She was quite sick and drunk with false ideas and machinations about her greatness, I do not think that she was mentally ill in the slightest. She let herself get sucked into a world where in she surrendered her real mind for that of a drug, alcohol and cult influenced maniac.

Drawn out

This was a single crime. I like a lot of detail, but the detail here added little or nothing to the story.

I found nothing wrong with the narrattion, but then I'm not from Texas! ;)

Fascinating true crime

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I live in Houston where this story was covered extensively, so I appreciated the authors' careful researching of the facts beyond the lurid headlines. I was satisfied that I had an answer to "How could this happen?", but relieved that she didn't try to psychoanalyze the characters or look for a "deeper message". I found myself very interested in the story and finished it in about 2 days.

If you’ve listened to books by Kathryn Casey before, how does this one compare?

1st one. Probably won't read any others, as it's very depressing to be immersed in these sordid tales.

Would you be willing to try another one of Heather Auden’s performances?

This was a downside- the Spanish accent was terrible and distracting, especially in Texas where Spanish is spoken everywhere.

Did Possessed inspire you to do anything?

No- both of the characters were fairly "damaged", so there is no fear that this could happen to me or anyone I know!

Well written

This book does a great job of explaining the life and personalities of the people in the book. It's a life story not just a regurgitation of a court case. Very well written and first book I have read/listened to by this author. I will look for more by her now.

Narrator did a great job and good accents so you knew who was speaking without constant he said she said after each dialogue. Really enjoyed the listen thanks to the narrator.

Yet another well-written Texas murder by Ms. Casey

I enjoy books written by Ms. Casey. This was certainly a compelling story of a woman's fall into chaos as her life shifted into the occult. Please note the reader could only emulate an Asian accent for the female characters who were Mexican or Swedish. This was very odd.
