About this listen

A small town, East Texas love triangle ends in a brutal execution. A teenage girl guns down her loving mother. A drag queen falls in love with a beautiful young woman, resulting in a horrific murder. A woman left for dead by a serial killer refuses to be a victim. These are just four of the cases explored in Murder, I Write, an exciting new anthology by critically acclaimed true crime author Kathryn Casey.

During 30 years in the trenches covering sensational murder cases, Casey's career has taken her from victims' homes, to homicide units, to face-offs with cold-blooded killers. In these fascinating behind-the-headlines true accounts of jealousy, betrayal, and revenge, Casey explores the worst men do and profiles those who triumph over evil.

I usually like Casey's books but I found the narrator in this one to be incredibly distracting. Using "quote" and "unquote" for presumably every third-party statement was odd. Not my cup of tea.

I typically like this author. This version with many small stories feels a little rushed, but I guess that is typical of this short story format. I wish she would focus a little less on the gory details of the crimes and a little more on the psychology and background of the victims and perpetrators. It is just the wrong mix of information to shorten the stories for my taste.

The writing is good. This narrator always speaks very clearly and deliberately. She is easy to listen to.

Fewer details than I like

An easy listen. These are of older cases, so if you're looking for recent stories you may be disappointed. I watched one of the cases reenacted on TV a few months back. The narrator did a good job as well. If you're into True Crime, you'll enjoy it.

Nice collection of stories

Narration was great. The stories were riveting. As a native Houstonian I am always interested to read true crime stories from our area. My hometown has many dark tales to tell. I didn't even realize the book was based in this area until I started listening. Totally random pick through Book Bub. What a surprise!

I don’t know if it was the writing or the narrator, but this book was only OK. I finished it, I just found a lot of the stories were longer than they had to beAN although they were really good stories and written a different way would’ve kept you on the edge of your seat I found I kept falling asleep I don’t know if that was due to the narrator of the writing or both. I found the right like AN rule and although most would find that a compliment I find there’s a lot of unnecessary detail and in Ann Rules books and The narratorreminded me of Laurel the narrator who Who narrates 4 Ann Rulelike these books.

Have you listened to any of Debbie Andreen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Debbie Andreen's narration was beautifully done, nice voice and perfect expressions in all the right places. I truly enjoyed listening to this book, I will look for other books she narrates.

wonderfully narrated

I liked the stories in this book but some seemed very dated and not terribly interesting.

The author is very verbose and that can be tiring. I sped up the reading time and it helped some.

The narration is just a lady fully reading a book with a ton of clicks in the background. Her voice is actually lovely but it came across as flat.

Overall it is worth a read.
