Got Me Speaking French Verbs in Context - Great Ed

Any additional comments?

Many thanks to Language Audiobooks and the Language Guy Mark Frobose and his native French speaking assistant Chloé for this wonderful French verb program that got me over the hump and into speaking French verbs in context.

Brilliant and remarkably easy approach. Mark explains, Chloé (wonderful native accent from
Picardie France) teaches you real French. (I actually discovered that Chloé is a degreed teacher of French to English speakers). A rare find. Bravo.

Anyway ...

Plenty of time is given to respond to cues and an extremely consistent, clear method that still allows for spontaneous creative sentence creation.
I don't know how they did it, but this team delivers great French verb instruction fast and easy.

A true and superb language tool! Listen in car!

Unlike the vast number of pretender purveyors of language learning books, this one has a true method. There is a "call and response" type of repetitive cadence between Professor Frobose (of the University of Illinois) and his spunky native language speaker Chloe. He speaks English; she speaks French as they go through the verb tenses. There is a lot of judicious repetition, so this becomes fixed in your brain. Perfect for listening in the car. Intermediate learners will enjoy the review and some new things about the verbs. There are no discernable mistakes here and that's really quite a feat. This particular title focuses on basic common verbs.

Exactly what I was looking for

it's a shame there aren't more language learning programs like this. Absolutely the best way to learn for me. Thank you!

Great Review

This is a great review book for the advanced beginner or early intermediate. It would be very confusing for a strictly beginner, as there are some grammar comcepts that are used but not thoroughly not explained. But, if you have some background knowledge, this book works well as a review.

Good but fast

It’s a great audio book to listen to if you have familiarity with many of the verbs and just need the drill to memorize. Not much explanation regarding tenses or spelling and there isn’t a companion pdf. If you don’t understand the changes in spelling, learn about that first or you’re doing yourself a disservice.

Couple of things were quite annoying. Pauses are very short to nonexistent between the prompt and the translator. Also, what in the hell is up with the change in his tone from normal, to whisper, to sensual i spent a lot of time chuckling or mocking the tone changes.

Overall though, it’s worth having.

Very poorly structured. Frustrating.

In the very *first* lesson, you are told you are going to review the verb être (to be). Then they immediately start running through all the conjugations of aller (to go). Hard to understate how frustrating that is as the FIRST lesson. This is a massive mistake, why would you release the book like this?

You are told to repeat the phrases after the French speaker. But often there is no time. And by no time, I mean NO time. It sounds like they are rushing through the words as fast as the possible can. It’s almost comical.

The should really go back and re-record this. It’s that bad.

Should have gone through one more round of editing

What disappointed you about Power French Verbs I (English and French Edition)?

I'm an intermediate level student. I struggle with recalling verbs, nouns I already know when speaking. This book seemed like a good choice to use for practicing recall and speaking.Unfortunately there are sever problems with this audio book1. It is poorly edited or structured. Listeners are asked to repeat phrases using verbs that have not been presented. In the very beginning your asked to conjugate the verb Etre and then the following sentences are all around the verb Aller.2. Although I was looking to push myself to recall words faster the book does not provide enough time after the English instructions for students to try an answer before the French response.3. The amount of time given for students to repeat and or practice what they've heard is too short or nonexistent. But what worse is that the time is inconsistent.

Would you ever listen to anything by Mark Frobose again?

I was optimistic about the book and so I purchased bother Power Verbs 1 and 2. So I will listen to Power Verbs 2 in hopes that they've done a better job.
