About this listen

If you're a self-taught guitarist wanting to play songs without spending all your time practicing, this may be the most important audiobook to which you ever listen....

This isn't one of those “practice until your fingers bleed“ or “cram confusing theory into your mind” type of guitar instruction guides. There are plenty of those available (i.e. practice scales and exercises for hours per day and feel guilty if you don’t).

When you approach practice like that, you have a lot of “stuff” to practice, but you usually have no real music to show for it, ending up with what I call mountain climber syndrome. You feel like eventually, your hard work is going to pay off, everything will come together, and you’ll finally be able to play songs.

Why not play songs right away instead?

This audiobook shows you:

  • How to get songs to performance quality no matter what level you're starting at
  • You should practice guitar parts over and over until you master them, right? Wrong! (Find out why in chapter seven)
  • How to create a practice routine you enjoy and can actually stick to (even if you have a super busy schedule)
  • When the best time to practice is for long-lasting results
  • Five ways to cut your practice time in half and virtually guarantee you make progress each time you pick up your guitar
  • What to think about while you're playing songs (the answer may surprise you)
  • How to reduce the amount of mistakes you make and exactly what to do when you make one (most beginners are doing the opposite!)
  • One practice method you should never use if you want rapid results on guitar
  • Say good-bye to guessing what to practice next and finally build a playlist of songs you're proud to play on guitar!

Very Inspirational

Just the mention of the "legendary" El Mocambo was enough for me ... I can still close my eyes and and imagine being under the "neon palms" ... Excellent read (listen on Audible! ) ... Highly recommended !!

The practice less play more title

I like skipping the uninspiring rote memorizing part and practicing with purpose. Freedom within form.
Steve Void Mastroianni is a great teacher. I wish I had found this book a long time ago!

Buy this book for guitar and life

It's nearly impossible to have a guitar lesson on an audiobook when you really think about it. After reading some reviews, I got the impression maybe this was a book of some guy unraveling lofty ideas. After all, I wanted to learn to play guitar not hear about another person talk about how much his guitar meant to him.

I was very wrong with that impression, and I'm very happy I bought this book. From the beginning, he goes into a story about him touring with KISS. I wasn't sold on the book. I thought it was going to be more stories like this. But soon, it got rolling and this book really blew my mind.

I love guitar, yet I am intimidated by it. For the past year, I've made five strong attempts to learn the instrument, but still can't play much more than a part of 'Heart of Gold' by Neil Young. My playing goes in circles. I watch Youtube videos, try to memorize what I'm taught, and retain NONE of it.

I was astonished to hear him describe people like me in full detail. He analyzed why we quickly burnt out, and then offered very logical solutions. Everything he said made sense and, after abandoning my pursuit of guitar, I actually feel like it's a winnable game. I was trying to hard before, and going into too many different directions. When I wasn't a rock star after three months, I got disgusted with the attempt.

This book helped bring me back. I'm very very happy with this book, and feel it has great replay value. He packs a lot into 3 hours instead of fluffing it out to an 8 hour book. It's well worth the 1 credit you'll pay to get it.

Best book I have seen in years on learning guitar

I grew up in the 80's and was relegated to play bass as my friends already took the guitar spots in music class. I played and enjoyed but always knew I would rather be on 6 strings - scroll forward to March 2020, with time now on my hands' thanks to COVID, time to pick up guitar, and watch, get bombarded, overwhelmed and downright discouraged with all the content that exists on the interwebs, YouTube, etc etc. I was getting nowhere

Refreshing my music theory, sure; playing scales, ok that seems legit; finger exercises, yup; charts, tabs, video lessons; books; arrgh!! but where are the songs?? I spent months going in circles and after hours and hours of "practice" could barely play 1 song start to finish.. WTF!

I found this book, listened as an audible and had found the one! K-I-S-S.....using Steve's method I have checked off a song a week that I can actually play along with backing track or recording from start to finish! No more information overload, no more "what shall I practice tonight", no more video feeds on YouTube to distract me from learning and PLAYING my favorite tunes and really enjoying music. Get this and you will see what I mean!

Great book in reading..not on audible

I wish Amazon gave a discount price for people who bought this audio book on audible, I would have bought on kindle version. His voice is easy to understand. But this is a learning book. It is not a story book so it is not easy to follow when you don't have anything on your hand. No musical demo.

This audio version doesn't help me much. The author should include a little bit information on pdf file to download and use as a guideline.
