About this listen

The predators become prey in a breathless novel of revenge from a USA Today bestselling author.

Still haunted by his wife's murder - and stained by the blood of avenging it - FBI special agent Hatcher McGee can't believe he's being teamed up with rookie agent Korine Davenport. She is his most guilty secret - the one-night stand who almost cost him everything.

Korine has her own demons. As a child, she witnessed her father's murder, and she's spent her life waiting for the killer's return. She and Hatcher are both looking for closure, but the disturbing case that draws them together could be their last.

When the mutilated body of a corrupt Savannah judge surfaces, Hatcher and Korine find themselves on the trail of a vigilante who is showing no mercy. Not for the predators who've gone free. And not for anyone who gets in the way.

As the body count rises, and as Hatcher's and Korine's own pasts unfold, they must risk their lives tracking a killer they've come to understand all too well. After all, the ends justify the means.

Good suspenseful romance

I always enjoy the story more when I can’t figure out “thy bad guy“. This is The case with this story. It was well written and it did have some steam in it. I was surprised at the end at who did it but that’s what I like. I like when I’ve been out fooled. Would definitely read another one of her books.

Pretty little killer

Very intriguing story with a twist. A lot happens and the love affair between Corin and the detective very interesting. I would recommend

great story

This is the first time I have read/listen to this author before. The narrator made certain things sound more southern than she did the next time, but overall I enjoyed her voice. I changed my mind several times on who the killer was so that tells you the suspense was good. The only complaint was the mental battles between Korine and Hatcher's sexual tension the whole book.

Great Mystery

This is the first book by Rita Herron I've listened to or read and I love it! It is a good mystery with a little romance and a very good story line. I really hope Audible puts all of this series on audio because I really want another one like this.

Captivating FBI thriller!

Can a pair of FBI agents stop a vigilante killer, while ignoring their prior one night stand? Veteran FBI agent Hatcher McGee is dealing with guilt over the death of his wife. Rookie FBI agent Korine Davenport is obsessed with finding her father’s killer; his death has been a pivotal moment in her young life and has shaped her into the woman she is today. We do get the POV of the killer throughout, but the identity is only revealed at the end. Good story. Looking forward to the next book.

OK read and barely OK narration..

I read Slaughter Creek series by Ms. Herron and loved all 4 books AND this could have been good too if it hadn’t been for the constant sexual thoughts and feelings. If you're going to write a murder mystery forget about the sex.

And, OMG, the guilt! Hatcher is so riddled with it. When his soon-to-be ex-wife called he didn’t take the call because he was having wild monkey sex with Korine and when the ex was kidnapped and murdered well, of course, he blamed himself, even though the ex was always a drama queen and Hatcher thought it was another one of THOSE calls, which it wasn't. Now he sees the ex everywhere, even in the passenger seat of his car, just above her headstone in the cemetery, and floating around the yard. It’s crazy.

Overall, it was a good murder mystery but it could have been so much better, especially without all the pages and pages of sex. It should have been just a book about the murders, the serial killers, the kidnapper/torturer and a slight touch of romance. I was rolling my eyes at all the thoughts and feelings of pure unadulterated lust, and the sex I skipped completely.

There was explicit sex. And the F-bomb was used 14 times.

As to the narration: Andi Arndt is just okay for me. She needs to do better on her men’s voices and learn to put more emotions in her reading. When you’re in a forest and the bad guy is watching the house burn down that he thinks you’re in and you’re talking about how you’re going to take him down you definitely DON’T talk in a regular voice you whisper. When you don’t whisper you make the scene stupid. IMO.

Enjoyed it

It took me a while to finish this one simply because it was my lunchtime listen, but I finally got there! I came in knowing nothing about it other than that it involved FBI agents and vigilantes, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a romantic suspense story. The plot is a little predictable in some places but surprising in others, and Andi Arndt’s narration is great. The characters have a past both with each other and their own demons, and there was a second I had to make sure this was Book 1 because I felt like maybe I missed the first one, but no, this is the first. All good! :) There are some themes that some people might not like, but it does say “disturbing case” in the plot summary, so that is up to the reader to vet ahead of time. Personally, I liked it because chasing down killers is not a pretty job in real life, and I don’t expect it to be in good fiction about people chasing down killers either. I liked the characters and the writing style so I’ll have to check out the rest of the series.

Pretty good story

Story would have been just as good without the description of the sex between the 2 main characters. I like mystery not the sexual stuff. The ending was a surprise. Good narrator since I listened to the book. The narrator can make or break even a good book. Enjoyable listen But honestly who names their baby Hatcher.

mystery and suspense

Pretty little killers was a well written suspense novel and the audible only made it better. The story kept me guessing till the end, just like a good mystery should, Overall, it was good, not great, but good. Andi Arndt is one of the best narrators out there, though I think she has been over used.
