About this listen

Sometimes playing cat and mouse is no game....

"Play? Right.

"My pride is under fire from all sides. My father's authority is in question and my lover is in exile - which means I haven't laid eyes on Marc's gorgeous face in months. And with a new mother and an I-know-everything teenager under my protection, I don't exactly have time to fantasize about ever seeing him again.

"Then our long-awaited reunion is ruined by a vicious ambush by strays. Now our group is under attack, Marc is missing, and I will need every bit of skill and smarts to keep my family from being torn apart. Forever."

Can't wait to read the next one!

I liked the first couple of books in the series, but I think Pride (prequel to Prey) and Prey are the best so far. Yes, the lead character is angry and doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut - but it really doesn't detract from the overall story, which was more involved here than in any of the previous books. I am really interested to see what happens next! If you enjoy supernatural sci-fi, you will enjoy these.

Each one seems better than the last!

I absolutely LOVE the entire Werecat Series. Rachel Vincent has created a seducing world that 'lies just beneath the surface' of our real one. It is believable, inventive, full of intrigue, and consistently exciting. I have been placing her 'scheduled release' dates in my calendar so I have the next book as soon as it arrives! Faith is a likeable & rebellious character with honorable morals and her story, life, and relationships are ALL interesting! Can't wait for the next book in March of 2010! *There are sex scenes - not frequent or overly prolific (more romantic in nature) but still detailed & I recommend the reader be at least 18.

Best one yet!

I almost gave up on this series because Faythe was such a whiner and never seemed to learn from her mistakes/blunders/stupidity. But now we see some growth. This book was riveting from beginning to end. Looking forward to the next one which is downloading right now.

Prey

This one is somewhat better than the first 3 in the series, but it turned into such a tearjerker for the entire second half of the book (I won't say why, but sure jerked my tears), that I will get a better synopsis of the next book before I buy. I don't read urban fantasy or paranormal romance to cry for the whole second half of the book.

Another premise of this series is that Faythe's father is grooming her to take over the Pride. Totally bizarre since she has made very few smart moves, even in this 4th book. She keeps saying she is maturing, but not so I could notice. Also, she is an "enforcer" for the pride, a dangerous job. But "tabbys" are supposed to be rare and protected. So where's the logic here?

The narrator does a pretty good job. I'm still interested in this series, but mostly for the men as I cannot bring myself to like or respect Faythe.

Turns and twists

I really enjoy Rachel Vincent's many turns and twists in her plots. She writes a fast action that accelerates throughout the entire story. Just when you think you can breathe again, another twist speeds up the story to supersonic.

NOTE: I can't review this book properly without spoilers so I am just going to do a quick mini-review! If you have started this series and not here yet---grab some hankies and be prepared. If you haven't started this series yet---DO SO RIGHT AWAY! If you have finished this series and I need more hankies for books 5 and 6---tell me now!

Basically this is one emotionally gripping tale of a Pride of Shifters that will yank at every heart string you have :) I highly recommend it to anyone who will listen!

Uncertain about continuing the series.

This book was very well written with an intricate plot and interesting characters. The only reason I am giving it three stars is because of the story itself, not the writing. The book (and series) has gone from bad to worse to awful to potentially unbearable. Ho-ly crap. The entirety of this book is just so dark, with the one bright part seeming to be when Fayth and Marc survive his kidnappers. Even then, there is a huge dark cloud looming overhead. The book definitely did not end happily. Instead, it ended with Fayth, Marc, and their prides' lives that much more complicated. While there seems to be potential for good things to happen in the future in this series, I get the feeling things are going to get a lot worse before they get better with there still being books 5, 6, and 6.5. Honestly, I'm not sure whether or not I want to keep listening. This series has continually put my stomach in knots and it only seems to be getting worse with each book. That being said, I'm not sure if I can stand to leave the series unfinished. Maybe the ending will make all of the strife along the way worthwhile? It is hard to say without reading the rest of the series.
