About this listen

Find the truth; risk everything. A gripping WWII spy novel full of intrigue and peril from a modern master.

1942: a German spy comes ashore on a desolate stretch of Lincolnshire beach. But he is hunted down by a young detective, Richard Prince. The secret services have need of a man like him....

In occupied Europe, Denmark is a hotbed of problems for British intelligence. Rumours of a war-ending weapon being developed by the Germans are rife. Sent to Copenhagen, Prince is soon caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Dodging Gestapo agents, SS muscle and the danger of betrayal, his survival - and the war effort - hangs in the balance.

Gripping and intense, Prince of Spies is the first in a new espionage series that will delight fans of Alan Furst, Philip Kerr and John le Carré.

I’m a big fan of the genre and this is one of the best books. Exciting, believable and a lot of detail on the nuts and bolts of espionage. Looking forward to the next one and the series. Also the narrator.

Great spy book!

Wonderful story, and overall the performance is very good. I just wish they took a moment and researched the correct pronunciations of the Danish cities and districts. Being a spy means fitting into one’s surroundings, and if Richard Prince can pass for a Dane, it’d be nice if the Rupert Bush could as well for those few words in the story.

Pronunciation issues — otherwise fine

First let me say that initially I was not into this book or the way the dialogue was written. However, as I continued along, I think that the story was great, it was the performance that took away from the story. At times I wondered if this voice was AI, as it hardly differentiated from character to character and often times created a strange cadence that took away from the story. This is a good read, he isn’t on the same level as Alan Furst, but few people are.

Great story, strange narration

I’ve listened to several of this author’s books and they’ve all been excellent. The previous series, The Best of our Spies, and now with the Prince series.

The plots are original, complex and interesting. Plus the narration has been top flight.

The one quibble I have with this book, which other commenters have mentioned, is the ending - or lack of one. Think of the Perils of Pauline where an episode ends with the heroine hanging from a cliff by her fingernails. So just be aware of that.

Good spy story

I am always looking for WW2 spy novels and this was my first one in the series. It is a great start. Loved the ending and the narrator was excellent. I am about to use my next credit on another in the series as my library only has the ebook not the audio book
