Publisher's summary

In this gripping thriller, Claire Keesey, the branch manager for a Boston bank, is taken hostage during a robbery. She is released, but Doug MacRay, the brains behind the tough, tight-knit crew of thieves, can't get her out of his mind. Tracking her down without his mask and gun, Doug introduces himself, and their mutual attraction is undeniable - as are the risks of a relationship. Doug imagines a life away from bank robberies and Charlestown.

But before that can happen, the crew learns that there may be a way to rob Boston's venerable baseball stadium, Fenway Park. It's a magnificently dangerous and utterly irresistible opportunity - yet for Doug, pursuing his former hostage may be the most dangerous act of all....

Critic reviews

"A terrific read...A rich narrative of friendship, young love, and mounting suspense." (Stephen King)
"As knowledgeable as James Ellroy, as sharp as Elmore Leonard, and as profound as fellow Boston scribe Dennis Lehane." ( Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
"Stunningly crafted...The plot...is swift and expertly built, the prose muscular and clean." ( The Seattle Times)

Fast and Exciting

This book flew by with a magnificent read by Ferrone. My Boston knowledge helped visualize all the places visited and characters were real and understandable by behaviors and appearance.

Chuck Hogan's best i

maybe because it takes place in Massachusetts is the reason I love this book so much or the speech given by the old Townie at the very beginning once it starts it takes you for a ride any fan of a great story will surely enjoy

Fast Paced Action

So Much goes into planning your life so all Might Out.... This is a great example of the chaos that take over some. It's a scarey reminder to me that this story is REALLY not far from reality!

Best Boston Irish mob book

I was born and raised in Charlestown. Out of all the Boston Irish mob books, this novel comes the closest to real life of any of them.
The characters, attitudes & ways of life hit close to home. You’d think Mr. Hogan was a Townie!
As a lifelong Townie, I can attest that the Charlestown underworld is almost perfectly captured here.

My fav Chuck Hogan novel

An outstanding story. All the best elements of a heist novel with realistic human personal relationship drama as well.

Narrator is excellent with a listenable voice and great inflection. Only issue was the part time Boston accent. Best choice for this book would’ve been one of the Wahlbergs, I think.

Pretty good!!!

I liked the book more than the movie but some parts not so much. For one angel dust especially in the mid-90s has never been a problem in Massachusetts especially Boston. I can appreciate some of the changes that Ben Affleck made in the movie but damn him for not including those grenades!!! Also a lot of the camaraderie between these guys was lacking in that film but it's still one of my favorite movies and this is one of my favorite books. If you're going to listen to a version of this listen to this one not the Donnie Wahlberg abridged version it's terrible...

Adjust the audio

I hated the narrator's voice at first but then I adjusted the bass to high and the treble to zero and that changed his voice entirely. I am so glad I did because this is a very good book. The characters are very well developed and the action moves along quickly. The plot was so engaging that when I couldn't listen I found myself anxious to get back to the story. This is very different from most "gangster" genres much more engaging and thought provoking. I am looking forward to other novels by this author.

Action Packed!

This is a story about the familial relationships between lifelong friends who also happen to dabble in robbery.

There’s little difference between the book and the movie (Loved the movie, it’s one of my favorites) except the connections between the friends (and by extension The Town) is explained further.

If you’ve seen the movie, then you know there are some sad moments and characters.

Another great read by Chuck Hogan

Wonderful story. I saw the movie "The Town" first and realized that it was based on a novel. I loved the book even more. It got you attached to the characters in a perfect way. I can't express fully how much I loved this book and other books by Chuck Hogan.
