About this listen

In faraway places of time and space, a young princess of a land that maybe was or wasn't is called on to save her friends and her mother's throne. Ten-year-old Wilma, heir to the thrones of both powerful Northumberland and small Tuscana, splits her time between the two, spending winters with her father and summers with her mother. Shortly after her return to Tuscana, treachery makes her a captive in the hands of the Pirate King, who is intent on destroying Tuscana with the aid of supernatural allies. Wilma, along with her friends Duncan and Chrissa, must find a way to get back home and foil the Pirate King's bloodthirsty plans.

Fun, takes a surprisingly dark turn

A bit of an unexpected surprise from J. F. Holmes! Starts out very Disney-esque, in the contemporary style of "Brave," or (shudder) "Frozen, but takes a very dark turn through "Pirates of the Caribbean" country with some added monsters straight out of the OG D&D Monster Manual. Maybe a little too violent for kids under 10 or 11, but parents should know their own kids ability to handle it. I think Holmes succeeds in writing a dark Disney fairy-tale that us parents won't want to secretly throw the book away or delete the show out of our accounts. Well done. Kalinda Little's performance was a lot of fun also, and she genuinely sells the whole thing easily.
