Great story but overly explained

72 chapters into this book before Salvadore starts writing like normal. for whatever reason the 1st 1/4 of the book is repeated over... and over... and over... again. I found myself skipping 30 seconds forward just to avoid the constant recall to the start of the book. then it was more fun timing the skip button as not to miss any advancing story then listening to this story. after 71 chapters my patience was rewarded with a great book...
Was it worth all this. YES

It was OK

Far from Salvatore's best work, but a decent listen nonetheless. Worth a listen I guess.

The tie-in to other R.A. Salvatore works.

While this story ties in to some of the best from R.A. It is a stretch to have a twelve year old carry this journey.

good story with some familiar names

Figured I'd listen to it since it mentioned Drizzt. But he's makes an appearance here and there. The main character is primarily with Capt Deudermont. In a quick description, its about boy who was cursed with an item that he must destroy before it kills him. And of course there are those willing to kill him to attain his cursed item for its magical properties.

Long

The story is long and sometimes drags out. Otherwise it was a great story! And loved how it ties into the ice wind dale trilogy.

Wild Ride

Really liked it. Typically, hate and love the complex characters. Good cameos too. Read this book!

An OK story

Overall I would say out of all the books I read by Salvatori this is one of my least favorite. I didn’t really care for the narrator, and I found the main female character to have a really obnoxious accent. Way too many of the same phrase, really made my teeth grate

Worst Salvatore book...

At the beginning of the book the main characters were very endearing and it was great to see the places of Forgotten Realms through the eyes of youngsters. However, as the story progressed it became more and more painfully evident that that he was going to keep acting like an immature self-centered arrogant child throughout the story. By the last few chapters, it was so ridiculous that he wasn't changing, and so annoying to listen to second-by-second accounts of all of the fights, that I almost didn't want to finish the book. If the entire plot hadn't been hanging on a few threads that we didn't find out about until the very end, I might have given up. Voice acting was great though.

Doesn't deserve it's negative reviews

Good story, not great literary work but come on. There's nothing new under the sun. For people who like to play D&D or just like a good fantasy story this will scratch that itch. Plus it's part of the Forgotten Realms series and features a few cameo appearances of everybodies favorite dark elf.
