Kay

Once upon a time, I fell for an Archangel’s trick.

He bonded me to him for eternity.

Then left me in Hell to survive alone.

I’m no longer the woman I was before.

I’m stronger. Faster. Harder. And lethal.

It’s my turn to deliver justice where it’s due.

I’m coming for you, Archangel Ezra.

And your precious Divinity, too.

Ezra

Once upon a time, I seduced a demon Halfling into helping me save the balance.

I engaged in a sacred bond.

Then I abandoned her without a word.

I’m no longer the Archangel I was before.

I’m broken. Suffering. Destroyed by my mate.

Now she’s coming for me, wielding a blade with the intent to kill.

I won’t kneel for you, Princess of Bael.

And I’m prepared to fight.

Author’s Note: Princess of Bael is a standalone paranormal romance in the Dark Provenance world, which can be listened to in any order. This novel contains violent elements and sensual material. Kay’s deadly. Ezra’s deadlier. A match made in literal hell. Forbidden. Fun. And darkly delicious.

Action and steam propel an compelling plot, with fantastic duet narration

4.5 stars! It’s been four decades on Earth since Ezra tricked Kayla into a bond and then took her to hell and left her there. For Kay, it’s been thousands of years in hell, and that has given her plenty of time to plot her revenge on the archangel that ruined her life. And her chance at obtaining the one thing that she could use to actually kill Ezra has finally come. Unfortunately, it also sets off a sequence of cataclysmic events that now threaten all three realms, and now Kay and Ezra have to work together to fix the balance.

This definitely tracks along the enemies to lovers trope, but interestingly, Ezra doesn’t see them as enemies, only Kay does. Ezra knows what he did to Kay was wrong, and he essentially sacrificed himself as well, when creating the bond, because as an angel, being away from his bonded mate causes him to weaken more and more with each day they’re apart, but Kayla doesn’t experience the same issue as part demon. Kayla has been in hell with her father, the archdemon, growing her powers and nursing her grudge, and when she sees Ezra again, she is much more powerful than she was. But merely being in her presence, Ezra already begins to feel more complete, and he’s deciding that maybe fighting for his mate and a future might be worth it. They just have to save the balance in the realms first. Kayla becomes conflicted when she sees Ezra again, recognizing that he seems to be suffering, and their bond doing things to her willpower, but she is determined to make him pay for what he did to her.

I liked the back and forth, the banter, the chemistry, it was all top notch. The secondary characters, and the characters from other books in the series that come and go throughout also add a great layer of depth to the story and the characters. It’s also worth noting that Kayla and Ezra complement each other nearly perfectly - they seemingly take turns rescuing each other, their own unique magic and abilities coming in handy in different circumstances. As they navigate their relationship, and try to discover who is attacking the realms and stop them, they find themselves not only opening up more to each other, but figuring out ways to move forward. And when they finally succumb to their physical desires, the sparks definitely fly. Their relationship evolves just as they do, and I loved the character development of both them as individuals and as a couple.

The strategic components of this story are great as well - Lexi is great at putting puzzle pieces together in an interesting and engrossing way. The way all the characters interact and work together just increased my overall enjoyment of the story.

Audiobook Review - As per usual with Lexi’s books, the narration is top notch. Duet narration with wonderful narrators punctuate the emotion and story beautifully, bringing a great story fantastically to life. You can’t go wrong with any of Lexi’s books as audiobooks, and this is no exception.

Ezra and Kay are ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

The narration alone had me giving this 4 stars. I love duet and multicast, and with the intense scenes, whether in battle or the bedroom, this was a really fun ride 😘

I jumped into this book partway into the series so I had some catch up to do, but thankfully there is enough re-introduction and discussion of characters and events that I was able to follow what was happening. It seems to work ok as a standalone but I'll probably try the rest of the series. There is a lot of world building going on in this story with multiple factions, political power hungry motivations and revenge plots. I wouldn't say this is an easy background listen, but it's definitely worth taking the time.

4/5 story, 4/5 narration

Terrific Story & Listen🎧 A Wild Captivating Ride!

Lexi C. Foss pens another amazing novel set in her “Dark Provenance” series and it is just as fascinating and imaginative as the first three books. This book stands on its own, though each book is just as amazing as the other and I recommend them all, an added benefit would be the familiarity of this great world Foss created, a world of supernatural beings, various types of angels and demon and more, plus the different realms they live in, heaven, heII and earth. Four decades ago Ezra, Archangel of Justice and protector of the Divinity, needed to help restore the balance of the world and he forced a mating bond on a half demon, half human hybrid. All turned out well for the world but not for Ezra, because her father, Archdemon Bael, told him he must never see his daughter Kayla again and he left her in the underworld with her father. This story picks up four decades after that incident and Kayla is out for vengeance against Ezra, she wants him dead for what he done to her, leaving her to live in HeII by herself. She goes back to where she first met Ezra, and with the help of Prince Ashmedai, she lures him to appear. Except not not all goes as planned and the balance of world gets thrown off when one of the Divinity is abducted. Kayla’s plan goes out the window and they forced her and Ezra to work together to get the world balance back in order again. These two work well together and the chemistry between them is undeniable, but is she willing to forgive him for what he done or will she just continue on with her mission and get her vengeance? This action-packed and cleverly plotted story has plenty of drama, angst, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and a great enemies to lovers romance. Lexi C. Foss, thank you for another amazing story and wild ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, Sarah Puckett, Walker Williams and Kale Williams are superbly talented and made a great team, the quality of the audio and their performance is top-notch and Lexi C. Foss could not have chosen a better cast to bring her characters and story to life. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance, making you feel every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fantastic listen.

Enemies-To-Lovers Romance

Princess of Bael by Lexi C. Foss is an enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Puckett, Walker Williams, and Kale Williams. This is the fourth book in the Dark Provenance series and can be read as a standalone.

I love this series! I really enjoyed the romance, drama, and action that surrounded Ezra and Kay. I loved that we got both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

Sarah, Walker, and Kale did an amazing job on the narration. They really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like enemies-to-lovers romances or paranormal romances.

Princess of Bael

Kay and Ezra were fantastic together. I enjoyed this urban fantasy enemies to lovers story so much. This is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone though I do recommend reading the previous books in the series never this one. There were a good amount of twists and turns along with a good amount of character development. I had a blast listening to it and wanted to learn more about this world and these characters. There was also a good amount of world building and politics in this story.

Standalone enemies-to-lovers

This is the fourth book in the Dark Provenance series that is a standalone. I don't feel like the beginning was a start to the book with it suppose to be a standalone as I was very confused with how it immediately started. I would have to read/listen to the other books in the series to understand who was who and what was what. Other than the beginning, I feel like it gave detailed descriptions of everything and made it easy to follow while multitasking.

I really enjoyed the narrators and their voices for the characters. I think they did a great job.

Another Great Story

Lexi Foss keeps the great books coming. I enjoyed this story. I loved the two main characters. The side characters fall into place nicely, as well. The narrators do a wonderful job telling the story.
