"Get to the cabin."
The words of Katrina’s father echo in her mind. One sentence, her sole purpose. Her dad taught her to be prepared, and they always had a bugout plan. If the world goes down the drain, get to the cabin.
Katrina should have been alone, but she couldn’t leave her friends behind. The five teenagers escape from the fallout shelter and journey through the desert to get to the safe house in the mountains. Except, they can’t run from Project Dandelion because they are Project Dandelion. The government’s attempt to save humanity after a global nuclear war.
As the teens struggle to survive this post-apocalyptic world, Katrina learns things aren’t always what they seem and people can’t always be trusted.

After reading the first PD, I was interested to see what more Katrina and the gang could do. Where the first book takes place within the confines of the bunker, book 2 takes us to the surface, and that's where it gets wild!
The kids wander, driven by one goal which is to get to Katrina's dads prepper cabin. Along the way, the kids run into rogue mercenaries, good Samaritans that take them in, and more. It's truly an expansion of an already interesting world.
Lark. Let me talk about this kid from book one, without getting too involved with book 2 spoilers. In short, I've never been as angry at a character from a story before. Thats says a lot. Most of the time, the selfish and arrogant troublemakers tend to get "handled" by the close of the story. This kid keeps gaining more and more traction. I can only hope he gets his comeuppance in book 3.
Regarding the writing, there is a huge shift in the writing style in some ways. More expanded and detailed, yet, remains easy to read. Carson does a wonderful job with expanding her world very well.
Carson managed to have the same narrator for consistency, which I can always appreciate. Stacey Glemboski captures the sound and mood of each character, she manages to paint a vivid picture with her voice. A+ for the narrator, whom I'd assume is doing book 3 as well.
Overall: what a book! A post apocalyptic dystopian that doesn't deal with zombies, radioactive monsters, or Eldredge gods wreaking havoc on the world. Instead, its "us." The humans that inhabit it already. Before, during, and after the world is destroyed. That makes for a more telling tale. I highly recommend it for your young adults, or anyone who loves these types of stories.
Not just a bunch of dumb kids...

I was captivated and on edge through the whole story as Katrina and her friends flee to the cabin and try to come to grips with their new reality. Very realistically and well written with great audio narration. Looking forward to the next book!
