Cosy Moments did not have a reputation for being controversial. In fact, packed as it was with gut-churning items like "Moments in the Nursery" and "Moments of Mirth," it reconciled Psmith to toothache.

Falling in with its deputy editor Billy Windsor, Psmith allows his literary aspirations to run riot and soon Cosy Moments is not cosy at all.

With biting attacks on the New York slum problem, the circulation goes up and up, but the owner of the tenements is not amused. He is willing to pay the magazine to pipe down, but the phrase on everyone's lips is "Cosy Moments cannot be muzzled." So the villain has to think of more devious ways of keeping Windsor and Psmith quiet, permanently.

This story starts out plodding, and it continues to plod for a long time. If I were not a rabid Wodehouse fan, and a great admirerer of Psmith as well, I would have abandoned it long before the end. This one is not for Wodehouse beginners, I think.

Some of his stories are just OK and others are real winners. I think this is a winners. If you like P.G.'s others stories, you'll certainly like this one.

Psmith is my favourite Wodehouse character, Jeeves and Wooster notwithstanding. This one is great fun. Full of sly laughs and Psmith's unflappable (significantly short of insufferable) mien. Highly recommended for Wodehouse boosters. The narrator's attempts at American accents are jarring at first, then present a charming, laconic contrast with Psmith's every sparkling utterance.

I plan to read the rest of this series and hopefully with the same narrator. The New York characters in contrast with the English characters was brilliant. It was kind of like Jeeves meets Damon Runyon. Fun and a fast moving little story.

I love this book, and although the recording isn't the best, the narrator is good except in one point: he persisted in calling Psmith "puh-smith" or "psssmith" throughout the book even when reading the instructions in pronunciation given by the character.
