About this listen

When Adam Piggott rode his motorbike across Australia chasing a girl he barely knew, he didn't understand much about anything at all. He wanted to change his life, but he didn't know how or what to change. The girl was the catalyst that forced him out of his comfortable existence.

This is the story of how a young man with no direction ended up working as a river guide in a range of exotic locations around the world. And on the way, while battling crazy bosses, fearsome rivers, and hordes of charlatans, thieves, and witch doctors, he learned what it is to truly effect change in oneself. With humor and honesty, Piggott shows how it's possible for a young man to end up in extraordinary circumstances through a willingness to take a chance instead of settling for the safe option.

I picked up this book because I like the narrator, but ended up really liking it. I listened to it in one go while at work, without a second of boredom. The story is great, very fast paced and exciting. I've had some similar experiences as the author had in this book, so I was able to relate to a point, but I think Piggott way outdid me in the overall hedonism. The writing is great and you are quickly sucked into Piggott's life and world. I felt this book was a prime example of the extreme nihilism plaguing a great number of the exceptional men of western civilization. I only subtract a star from the story because the author did not realize this himself and steered the book to other conclusions. Also the propensity of the author to lie to other characters in the story made me wonder if he wasn't lying a little in telling the story... Either way, it was a great read and I give this book my wholehearted recommendation.

Very Fun Story

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audio book! I have also purchased a hard copy of 'Run Guts Pull Cones' another book by the same author, which I thoroughly enjoyed too. Looking forward to reading any subsequent books by Mr.Piggott!

What made the experience of listening to Pushing Rubber Downhill the most enjoyable?

A well written book about a subject I know nothing about, but find interesting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Adam, as it's all from his POV

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator read the book. Full stop. He's quite good at reading the book, but not so much as a voice actor.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but I did plow through it because it was that entertaining. The audiobook version of "couldn't put it down"

Any additional comments?

Very much worth the money spent, an enjoyable audio book.

I bought this audiobook because I thought it might inspire me to venture out like the author did. I’m a 19 year male, and maybe I’m just low on testosterone but I could not relate to this guy in any sort of fashion. So for all those reviews telling you that it’s a good book to read when coming into adulthood, just give it a second thought. As for the story, it’s alright, definitely gets a bit more interesting near the end.

Not for me

the narrator was all over the place. He rambled more than just told his story. There was no special or intense moment. Also the voice over sounded like a deuce bag. He bro, hey dude type of go. His emotions was weak and he was pretty stoic during the whole book. This book was recommended by Aaron Clarrey on YT so I purchased this. I still dont understand the key points in the book. this guy went to seasonal jobs. boohoo Horrible

book had no storyline
