About this listen

Hidden somewhere, in nearly every major city in the world, is an underground seduction lair. And in these lairs, men trade the most devastatingly effective techniques ever invented to charm women. This is not fiction. These men really exist. They live together in houses known as Projects. And Neil Strauss, the best-selling author, spent two years living among them, using the pseudonym Style to protect his real-life identity.

The result is one of the most explosive and controversial books of the year -- guaranteed to change the lives of men and transform the way women understand the opposite sex forever.

On his journey from AFC (average frustrated chump) to PUA (pick-up artist) to PUG (pick-up guru), Strauss not only shares scores of original seduction techniques but also has unforgettable encounters with the likes of Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Heidi Fleiss, and Courtney Love. And then things really start to get strange -- and passions lead to betrayals lead to violence.

The Game is the story of one man's transformation from frog to prince to prisoner in the most unforgettable book of the year.

Really excellent book.

Interesting how PUA's become so good at scamming and can't relate to women once they fall in love.
I'd never thought of that angle.
Highly recommend this to guys who are envious of rock stars and millionaires surrounded by models.
It's got it's problems too.

I'm glad I'm not him but all women should listen

What made the experience of listening to The Game the most enjoyable?

This is sad in away but really a good judge of how men think. It's obvious that there are players in the world but the more men study women of course its a bit scammy. On one hand I'm glad for them that they are improving themselves and being relatively honest. This does lay some blame on women for being risqué it's their own fault type mentality but on the other its a sad example of the human experience. I don't envy these men but it does give you some good ideas on how to improve your character and human interaction but its everyone's responsibility to not take advantage of other people with the knowledge they have.

If you could give The Game a new subtitle, what would it be?

Men chasing women. A story of one man's study of dating interaction as a novel.

Dubious but Facinating

This story has two parts. The first is Strauss's introduction and rise within the world of self proclaimed pick up artists (PUA's). The second is the author's participation in a quixotic PUA commune.

The idea that there are secret methods to seduce a woman is simply false. Surprisingly, knowing this fact didn't make the story any less enjoyable. Strauss is a really good writer. How else could he turn this ethical disaster into an enjoyable narrative with likable characters?

Here, Strauss has blended the styles of gonzo-journalism with reality television to produce something new. While reading, I suspected that much was fiction, yet I was never quite sure because there were moments that were clearly honest and sincere. It worked for me. I guess I was seduced - maybe Strauss is indeed the king of all pick up artists.

Not at all what i expected

I was expecting a how to on seduction but instead i got a thoroughly enthralling depiction of neil strauss' journey through the world of pick up artists. The story is so outlandish in some parts that i can't help but think on occasion that some of it is an embellishment but i couldn't stop listening.

This is NOT a how to become a Pick-Up Artist.

This is not a how to book, on how to become a Pick-Up Artist. This is the story of bunch of pick-up artists and their life styles / stories.
This is not a teaching manual. This is not to say that the stories are not interesting and that it's not a good read. It's OK. Perhaps I was expecting something different, due to all the stuff I had heard about it throughout the years. If you want to learn specific methods and scripts, this is not the book.
If you are looking to see a glimpse of their lifestyle and struggles, then go for it.

One of the greatest books ever written.

When I first read this book about 10 years ago it changed my life. I’ve lent it out, recommended it and referenced it more times than even the Bible. I make a point to read it once a year. Great story and great feeling. The audio book is great but do yourself a favor and pick up a paper back too. There’s just way too much they couldn’t put in to the audio so you miss out if you don’t read it too.

Loved it.

I probably lived parts of this book without even knowing it. The story is great and there are several life lessons to be learned here. Neil Strauss is a beast.
