Fluffy

This book could possibly be used to get a vague understanding of python. it's light on specifics, except for the bewildering enumeration of every single flavor of Unix and windows that supports python.

As mentioned it could be used as an introduction and it does seem to go through the main features, but not before reiterating how excellent python is compared to other languages, how popular it is and how easy it is to use.

An I Heart Python sticker would have sufficed.

totally worthless

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This book is not very useful unless you want to hear the background of "why Python"
As for a programming book it is relatively useless

Would you ever listen to anything by Lance Gifford again?

Probably not

Several Pages of NO INFORMATION

Not sure I get it. This starts out with a medical disclaimer, then goes on to provide VERY little information. Not worth the $. Sorry Lance you really have to put more into it.

Worthless! Don't waste your time!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It would have had some merit if it contained actual useful information that leaves the listener with ability to code at least one, if not more, actual useful and functional Python-coded programs. What it has is a few bullet points of basic data about Python that could be summarized in ONE CHAPTER, but is spread out over 8 chapters to obfuscate the fact that the author is CLUELESS and UNABLE to code himself!!!

Would you ever listen to anything by Lance Gifford again?

No. The author takes small amounts of random publicly available data,ZERO real coding experience of his own, adds tons of fluff to fill out 8 meager light-weight chapters and tries to pass it off as a 'book.' Just another part of the 'get rich writing useless 'books' scams. Don't waste your time.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kirk Hanley’s performances?

No. Annoying vocal texture

What character would you cut from Python Programming Techniques?

The worthless 'get rich writing worthless books' author.

Any additional comments?

After subtracting the LARGE volume of useless fluff, the cheer-leading rah-rah 'Python is so easy', all of the actual 'information' in this 'book' could be condensed into one chapter. It would even let down the complete novice, as it stops short of actually conveying any useful info, and just gives a brief history of the Python language, a few bits of data that would be found after a 15minute google search about Python (would not be surprised if this was the extent of the author's 'research' on the topic), and a lot of garbage fluff to hide the fact that the author, as admitted at the end of the book, IS NOT A PROGRAMMER AND HAS NO &*&^(&^%^%%$$))($#@! IDEA HOW TO CODE AND SO CANNOT TELL YOU ANYTHING USEFUL ABOUT CODING!!!!
You may be able to get a monetary credit or refund for this book, but you can't get back the time you wasted listening to this useless drivel!

Okay for a short introduction, but I expected more

Would you try another book from Lance Gifford and/or Kirk Hanley?

No, the brief overview to Python was not worth the credit. I was expecting more content.

Its worth $5.

What did you love best about Python Programming Techniques?

Look, it's an hour long book. And it's only $5. You will not learn to code in an hour from an audio book. But it does cover terminology and basic coding procedures.
This comes in handy for people like me, who listened to it on the way in to work, and home.

Any additional comments?

I would suggest listening to this one first, and then listen to: Python Programming, by Scotts, Jason
