About this listen

“If I could only read one writer from now until the end of my life, it would be Dorothea Benton Frank." (Elin Hilderbrand, the New York Times best-selling author)

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of New York Times best-selling author Dorthea Benton Frank’s Carolina Lowcountry in this evocative tale that returns at long last to her beloved Sullivan’s Island.

Beekeeper Holly McNee Kensen quietly lives in a world of her own on Sullivan’s Island, tending her hives and working at the local island library. Holly calls her mother "The Queen Bee" because she’s a demanding hulk of a woman. Her mother, a devoted hypochondriac, might be unaware she’s quite ill, but that doesn’t stop her from tormenting Holly. To escape the drama, Holly’s sister, Leslie, married and moved away, wanting little to do with island life. Holly’s escape is to submerge herself in the lives of the two young boys next door and their widowed father, Archie.

Her world is upended when the more flamboyant Leslie returns and both sisters, polar opposites, fixate on what’s happening in their neighbor’s home. Is Archie really in love with that awful ice queen of a woman? If Archie marries her, what will become of his little boys? Restless Leslie is desperate for validation after her imploded marriage, squandering her favors on any and all takers. Their mother ups her game in an uproarious and theatrical downward spiral. Scandalized Holly is talking to her honey bees a mile a minute, as though they’ll give her a solution to all the chaos. Maybe they will.

Queen Bee is a classic Lowcountry Tale, warm, wise, and hilarious, roaring with humanity and a dropperful of whodunit added for good measure by an unseen hand. In her 20th novel, Dorothea Benton Frank brings us back to her beloved island with an unforgettable story where the Lowcountry magic of the natural world collides with the beat of the human heart.

Swan Song

What a fun way to enjoy the last book from a beloved author. Just a light and entertaining read that everyone needs once in awhile. Rest with the angels, Miss Dorothea ❤️

Not her best work...

I love love love Dorothea but this book was not my favorite. In fact it would be on the bottom of her list. Story line was ok but between the Narrator and some of the things said I just didn’t enjoy as much as I have so many of her others. I alway pre purchase her books and it makes me sad to be disappointed in any of her work. PS the Tin man in the wizard of Oz needed a heart, not a brain. Just several references like this caught my attention. Maybe the next one will be back on track. 💕

Perfect Dorothy- Rest In Peace

I saved this book to cherish and read knowing it was her last— such a wonderful storyteller- will always remember her fondly and the beautiful low country she grew up in as Did I . ❤️

Great story

Great story and narrating! Only thing is I don’t like in audio books when the woman narrating has to use a mans voice.. so hard to take it seriously! But the book is great and full of pleasant surprises that I didn’t expect!

Easy listening to a Dorothea Benton Frank story

A sweet love story, good characters, slightly unbelievable Las Vegas tangent, good bee facts, nicely performed.

Queen Bee

This was a Rom/Com with a murder in it. Not so strange you say. Yes, you might be right, but it was such an easy and relaxed set up. So you might be wrong. I enjoyed the experience and the characters, and I do want to try one more book to be sure I don't just love Dorothea Benton Frank's writing.

I was intrigued

It made me want to be a bit more like Holly. Being a part of her life was a good escape.
