Fantastic revist to my childhood

It was wonderful getting to revisit my childhood with the books that started my love of reading.

OMG

This was even more exciting to listen to this time around. I listened to C.B. And I thought he had great talent but Mr. Wiggins was super surprising cause I didn't think it could get any better. Thank you for doing such a great job bringing this masterpiece to life. Thank you again, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Still a classic

I have read these for years and having the option to listen as I drive was wonderful. These stories are so rich and layered. Brian Wiggins was a wonderful choice for narrator as he adds to the stories and is able to perform multiple distinct voices which adds to the overall story

Playful and serious

The differentiation between when things were lighthearted and gravely serious was executed perfectly. The gravity of certain situations was definitely captured correctly.

The narrator was very distracting

I loved these books when I first read them 30 years ago. They are good fun. A little flawed here and there but generally a good time. The characters are the best part. The narration sapped all of the fun out of them. His delivery didn't capture the charm of the characters. Even worse, the accents he used were inconsistent and distracting. All of the tough guys sound straight out of the Bronx, no matter what country they are from.

The new narrator.

The new narrator was perfectly fine. I just miss the old narrator. He brought out all of the humor in the story. It was so much more enjoyable.

What is this dialect bro.

I love this book and have read it several times, but desired to listen to the audiobook the dialect decisions and straight up incorrect phrasing of sentences, confounds me. Multiple times in the story the book will say a scripture for how a sentence is said, however, the narrator will say it completely differently. It drove me crazy the entire time don’t even get me started on the accents. He gives all of the characters if you don’t come from Sendaria, then you sound like a crazy European.

Incredibly Well Done

Brian Wiggins was incredible and actually brought some of my all time favorite characters to life!!! I have been waiting years and years for a decent audio book of The Belgariad and Malloreon series, and this over delivers!!! I am patiently waiting the remaining books and will order them all. Please, please, please continue with the fantastic work. I cannot say enough about the amazing writing and world building of David Eddings, other than to commend the narrator for bringing this story to life!

Bad narrator

The Belgaraid used to be one of my favorites. However they have changed the narrator and have ruined it. Read the books instead.

Great story, bad narration

In my review, I want to first ask a simple question: what is wrong with the David Eddings foundation that they can’t find a high quality narrator for this series. The first narrator was abysmal, and they got a second narrator for the series who is only slightly better. There are so many amazing narrator’s out there…

Now for my review: The story is wonderful. Eddings is able to create characters with depth and personality. The character development is extensive and many faceted. I would highly recommend readers of all ages to read this series.

Narration:
I do NOT recommend anyone to buy this book on audible. I am sure the narrator is a very nice person, and to be honest his normal reading voice is pleasent. However, that is where it ends.
- he seems to caught up on his accents. Seems like he is more concerned with using a bad French or Irish accent over telling the story
- sarcasm is totally lost. This story has so many funny sarcastic lines, which falls totally flat by the narrator.
- seems like the narrator didn’t read or understand the line before reading aloud. Inflection such as questions, surprise, anger, etc are read so flatly.
- Garion’s internal voice - Irish Accent? Please Nooo… unfortunately, yes. This was the final straw for me. I will not be purchasing any for stories read by this narrator

I went back and forth on whether to leave this review. I really don’t like criticizing any narrator, because frankly I could not do it myself. However, I felt I needed to give ample information to anyone thinking about purchasing this audio book or any others in this series.
There may be some listeners that like the way this story is read, and for those , I hope you enjoy this marvelous story!
