Publisher's summary

Sometimes fate brings you together—only to tear you apart.

Growing up in the foster system, Quinn O'Meara made a point of never getting involved. But when she discovers a crying baby amid a fiery crime scene, she knows she has no choice. Suddenly in way over her head, Quinn turns to the police, unintentionally positioning herself in the crosshairs of a deadly human-trafficking ring.

The last time homicide detective Nick Saldano saw Quinn, she was still the young girl he'd shared a foster home with. The girl who'd loved and cared for him when no one else had. Now here she was, gorgeously all grown-up—and in terrible danger.

Unwilling to lose her again, Nick insists on keeping Quinn close, especially when the bond they once shared heatedly slides into desire. Quinn finally has someone worth holding on to, but what kind of future can they have when she might not live to see tomorrow?

A good enjoyable read

Overall I enjoyed the story. The reader also did pretty good with the different voices even though there were times when the reader gave Quinn this annoying, tiny little girl voice instead of the grown woman who has been through whole lot of hell and tragedy.
In regards to the story itself, a part of me really really wanted to see more interaction, near misses, and consequences between Anton Baba and Starla. As one of the many women he abused so horribly (and arguably suffered worse and for longer), she more than anyone is the one who deserved a chance to kick the ever living snot out of that bastard.
Lastly, I'm not accustomed to stories where the FBI are such massive, bumbling idiots. Talk about incompetent! SHEESH! So that was a bit of a letdown.
Regardless, I would still recommend this story because there was a fair amount of action, lots of good feeling, and not tons of filth, which I won't lie, in some other stories it has its place but it's good to get a break from that stuff sometimes.
Now, on to my next Sharon Sala listen!

I wish I had known this was a Harlequin book.

Just ok. I would not have chosen this audiobook if I had known it was a Harlequin production. If you like stories with a guaranteed happy ending, a fluff story and lots of time where the plot stops for romance you may like this. Just not my thing.

One of my favorite Sharon Sala books ever.

Draws you right into the action and never stops. Nick and Quinn are perfect for each other. The performance was excellent as well. Loved every minute.

Selling of young Girls

Couldn’t stop listening to this one. How selfish the buyer & Leader was only using women as a product. Hopefully it will wake young girls up how dangerous the Black Web online Truly IS!!

Another Excellent book by Sharon Sala

Wow! This book had me from the 1st chapter. The book starts out with Starla's story, she is a young girl who sneaks out to meet a guy she met online, and ends up kidnapped and sold to an unsavory character. Starla is a strong woman, she is smart and gets a chance to escape. Enter Quinn, she is an innocent bystander who finds Baby Sammy (Starla's son) and almost gets killed rescuing him. When she goes to the police station to turn Baby Sammy in, Quinn is reunited with someone from her past... homicide Detective Nick Saldano. This book kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next to these 2 brave, strong women in their quest for justice.
Thank you Sharon Sala for another awesome book!!!

Was ok

But didn’t require my attention. Was too Harlequin for me. Story was fair but parts too simplistic and minimalizes the horror of captivity for 7 years. Narrator made one female sound like way too young. Not my best read by far
