Publisher's summary

Dallas Phillips refuses to believe her father committed suicide, even though things were tough on his farm and he was deeply in debt. When she hears he'd told a neighbor about an upcoming windfall, she grows suspicious, and her suspicion only deepens when she realizes someone is lurking in the nearby mountains after dark. For help, she turns to Trey Jakes, local police chief - and her former lover. As they begin to investigate, another mystery comes to light. Trey's mother is beginning to remember events from 30 years ago, something shadowy that happened in the mountains, and Dallas' father was there, too. Is what happened that night connected to his "suicide"? As they search for the truth, Trey and Dallas struggle to fight their attraction, but they may not be able to fend off another force - a killer who's more than willing to kill again to make sure old secrets stay buried.

Decent Read

This was a good read. I was entertained throughout. However my only complaints are that I still don't know the color of any of the characters hair. I didn't feel there was enough suspense for the climax part. I dunno if I want to read the 2nd book...looked at it and it looks like the exact same story. Kind of disappointed but not sorry I read this. It's just a mediocre story.

Well written but frustrating storyline

I liked the characters and plot twists, but was driven crazy by the sexist storyline- the heroine kept talking about her guilt for pursuing a career instead of staying connected to her true love. She apologised repeatedly for this behaviour which the hero acknowledged and accepted as his due. What I don’t get was why the hero wasn’t also apologising and guilty for pursuing his career not following his true love. Why were his wants of staying more important than her wants of going - why was she the one who broke his heart - did he not love her enough to go with her?

I love this author!!

I love a murder mystery type of story and her approach with the background to each romance. that the characters have a previous history.

Enjoyed it!

I enjoyed the story. Plenty of emotion wrapped up in it. I especially liked the narrator. With some narrators, it takes me a good chunk of the book to get used to their voices, but this one was great from the beginning. I like the small town farm setting and the mystery aspect of the story. I recommend it to romantic mystery lovers.

Mountain Women Rock

In addition to an engrossing mystery set in the West Virginia mountains, Wild Hearts featured two fascinating and strong women, Dallas and Betsy.

While Dallas accepted help from friends and neighbors after a family tragedy, she did not want or expect to be rescued or saved by anyone, including her high school boyfriend and current police chief Trey.

Since Trey was raised by a smart, strong and independent mother (Betsy), he genuinely liked and respected women, appreciating Dallas for her determination and loyalty.

This entertaining novel celebrated love, family, small towns and friendship; contained some strong language and explicit yet tasteful love scenes.

This is book ONE of a 3 book series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would as this was a good story and the narrator did a great job reading the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the two story plots- the book starts out with first plot- a group of kids who just graduated high school who saw something and then had a car accident. None of them could remember what happened that night. Note this is a continuing storyline and will NOT be finished until book 3. The second plot starts in 'current day' and is the story of Dallas and Trey two sweethearts who reconnect.

What does Nina Alvamar bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a great job narrating the book.

Any additional comments?

The ongoing plot continues in Book 2 "Cold Hearts" and available on audible and kindle. Book 3 "Dark Hearts" will not be published until March 2016.
